Noel Looks Back In Anger

You guys had a lot to say about the new Oasis single. Now Noel chimes in:

"If it was up to the band, ['Lyla'] wouldn't be the single. It was the powers that be, whoever they fucking are, that decided the first single. It's a fucking scandal that as the leader of this group I don't get to pick what our fans hear first."
Has anyone heard the whole album?

sorry... i don't think the beck secret show post needed to be taken down.
does anyone else think it doesn't matter that the beck show was posted? let's get all excited about it and whiine how "super cool" the "real fans" are.... if the beck camp who sent you the heads up email thought you were the elite TRUE fans then i guess they could've really hooked you up and given you free tickets.
cry babies...sit at your computer at 4:59 with your heart pounding to get tickets just like everybody else.

that beck show was already announced on nme.com and productshop.com and a million other sites. beck is hugely popular. his album debuted at #2. you think he can really pull off a secret show? do you realize how many people are on the beck mailing list? whatever- he took the info down so quit yer whining. also oasis sucks.

Why would you bother to include a song on the record that you wouldn't choose for people to hear?

I don't think he minds the song, just didn't want it as the lead single.

Noel's done this with every new record since morning glory, say how brilliant the record is and then as soon as someone says it's shite , he points the finger elsewhere. How can you sell that many records and not be in control of what gets released first?? And why would you tell the world that your new single is basically album filler? Noel's a dumbass. Andy Bell needs to find a better band to join.

the song blows but somehow 26 "modern rock" stations added it ... i didnt realise there were 26 modern rock programmers who wanted Oasis tickets ... my guess ... the label went over first single choices with the band ... the band said something like "sod it we can't be bothered" and are now complaining ... i highly doubt Lyla is the worst track on the cd ...

and i got the Beck secret show email but i'm neither cool nor in New York

The new Oasis record is confusing--if it didn't say "Oasis" on the promo CD, I think I would have a hard time determining that it was in fact a Gallagher Brother production. There's some odd-sounding southern rock on there (several tracks feature Noel's harmonica stylings), the opening track is totally a Jimmy Eat World b-side, and there's a ballad on there that's been kicking around Oasis boots since '96 or so. A weird, weird record, but most of the songwriting is spot-on and Liam's voice sounds really fantastic. Not much of a compliment, but easily their best record since "What's the Story?"

Oasis owns you all. I, for one, can't wait for them to roll into my town again. Rawk = Rawk no matter how you look at it.

It's very different, not typical Oasis but for sure the best since Morning Glory. No shite Liam songs a la "Little James" either. I wasn't sure about the album when I first heard it but I'm more mad fer it each time I listen.

I am sure Oasis rocks live, if they came here, I would go see them. But they have put out quite a few shite records. Standing on the shoulder of giants became a beer coaster at my house after 1 week in rotation. They have a lot of ballsy swagger and say they are great (which is good), but then they can't live up to it. I haven't heard the album yet, but I haven't got my hopes up after hearing Lyla.

I realised i wasn't in the loop when i asked some young kid "what's the story, morning glory?" and the only response i got was a confused face looking at me. Nerdsville here is come!

comments from an additional article linked:

"Noel Gallagher believes that ‘Lyla’ is a true Oasis classic.
''It's The Who. ‘Lyla’ was specifically designed for pogoing. We wrote 66 tracks and ‘Lyla’ was one that we revisited late on and it's ended up on the album. I’m happy with every track on the album.”'

when di he change his mind? when he found out the song honked?

isn't this just like a 50cent vs the game pre record release feud. except this idiot is fighting the man, even though for all intents and purposes he is the man. now both songs will be the single. I'm not sure who I hate more now, oasis and this pouff, or every radio station that is playing this track. eh, both.

This album is fucking cool...great...outstanding. As an Oasis fan, I say this with great affection andd all due respect: The Truth is a welcome change. They've been trying to make up for Be Here Now for years. They did that with Shoulders. With The Truth, they've surpassed expectation (or disappointment). They finally churned out what I wanted to hear after the Brotherly Love Tour with Black Crowes. Lyla is cool, but may be the weakest link.
