Norman Palm Loves The '80s

Anything to show a little love to Erl. Berlin-based "Swinger-Songwriter" has put together a little '80s covers project including a cover of the Cure's "Boys Don't Cry," featuring our favorite Whitest Boy Alive on trombone. But it's not just for the sake of Øye we post -- Norm's finger-picked bedsit lullaby take is infectious.

Listen at MySpace, where you can also have a taste of Norm's downcast "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." The two tracks are coming out on limited edition 7" vinyl with 300 hand-numbered copies on 11/9 (and of course, digitally) via Ratio.

Hey, speaking of the Cure, they recently debuted a new song in concert...

Live from the Download 2007 Festival at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Mountain View, CA, it's "Please Project." Muted audio quality, but promising nonetheless...

Full setlist here And, lyrics! Lovingly transcribed by YouTuber HaloCure:

"Please Project"
Oh I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to my head
When you push me upstairs
And you pull me into bed
I love what you do to my head
It's a mess up there!

Oh I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to my heart
When you push me back down
And it pulls me apart
I love what you do to my heart
It's the best, oh yeah!

You're the only woman I'd try for
Yeah, the only one I'd (die to pray for?)
You're the only woman I'd sigh for
Yeah, the only one I'd try to be clear
And it gets better everyday, I say
With you it's (so extreme?)
Yeah it gets better everyday, I say
With you it's so real
It gets better everyday, I say
With you it's such a dream!

Oh I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to my lips
When you pull me outside
And I ? you like this
I love what you do to my lips
It's a (sin for me?) (symphony?)
Oh I love, love, love, love
What you do to my hips
When you throw me outside
And insult me like this
I love what you do to my hips
It's the best, oh yeah!

You're the only woman I'd try for
Yeah, the only one I've time for me?
The only woman I'd sigh for
Yeah, the only one I'd die to me?
And it gets better everyday, I say
With you it's so strange?
And it gets better everyday, I say
With you it's extreme
It gets better everyday, I say
With you it's like a dream !
I love, oh I love, oh I love
What you do to me!

Hi,

actually it's not Erlend that plays trombone, but Sebastian Maschat from The Whitest Boy Alive.

As we pass saturation point for press coverage of Montreal, Portland, Brooklyn and et cetera, it seems Lawrence, Kansas is poised for its coming turn in the music media trend piece carousel. At least from what we're hearing; this marks...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
