Old Metric - "Hardwire"

Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw's first official release came with 2003's Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, though that wasn't their first full-length studio effort. As a two-piece in '99, before adding their taut live rhythm section, Metric had an even slinkier, electro vibe, recordeding their true debut Grow Up And Blow Away for Restless Records. Before it saw the shops, though, Restless was acquired by Rykodisc, and in a common label-merger casualty, Metric's record was shelved. A few years on, Metric morphed into a quartet and figured Old World better reflected the band's vibe.

We love happy endings of all sorts, and this story comes to one this June, when Last Gang Records (who acquired the rights to Grow Up...) releases Metric's first studio effort with all the requisite pomp and circumstance. And that includes this taste from the record; no, "Hardwire" won't be new for hardcore Metric lovers, but for those that know the band as merely a Broken Social Scene tributary, it's quite choice.

Grow Up And Blow Away is out on 6/12 on iTunes and 6/28 in the physical realm, via Last Gang Records. Photoshop out Feist's face and add Jimmy Shaw, and you have Metric circa '99. Or, ya know, don't.

I love Metric, but this album is a serious waste of time. Don't bother. It's a post-trip-hop, ugh... that's enough right there to go, delete.

i love the original version of this album, very disappointed they pulled two of the best tracks (torture me and parkdale) and changed the track order.

The album is great, I agree with Tom that it was a shame that Parkdale and Torture Me were pulled. Did they change anything else? This version of "Hardwire" sounds a bit different than the one I have.

And wow, the picture is great.

I agree that it sucks they pulled Torture Me and Parkside. I think they got removed because maybe Metric think they aren't as good, or suited anymore, although they are both good. I think they pulled fanfare off too, although it is so short, it won't really be missed.

Also, that pic is so cute <3
I dunno why you would wanna photoshop something that great, or what it has to do with the story (just wanted to repost it?) but it is awesome.

Also, Canadian nerd out, if you look closely, Feist has the CBC logo on her shirt. (At the far right side)

Dude, if I photoshop anything in that gem of a picture, it's going to be me in between the two of them, giving an obnoxious thumbs-up.

Is there anything hotter than rock chicks? Or female musicians in general? I used to think the concept of "groupies" in reference to women throwing themselves at 70's male rock stars was either mostly urban myth or some sort of psychopathology. Nowadays with so many women in rock combining incredible talent and gorgeousity, of whom Feist and Emily Haines are breathtaking examples, I have new understanding and empathy with groupies everywhere, past & present.
