Once Coming To Broadway Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová's surprise indie-rock Oscar win likely had a lot to do with a trio of Tony-winning producers acquiring Once's live theater rights so they could bring the flick to Broadway (possibly for the 2010-2011 season). Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have been tapped to play the leads.

This makes me sad, I hope they don't completely ruin it. Mannn, I love that movie and saw them in concert, I don't think it would be the same with other people.

Has the potential to go extremely each way. Let's just hope the cast and production take it the right way. Makes sense to me though - poppy campy songs, sentimental, limited sets, a good recipe.

That was the worst movie I watched this past year and that's saying a lot considering what was released into theatres in 2008 (10,000 BC anyone?). Weiner music for Starbucks consumerism would be a pretty accurate description of those songs. The only thing more boring than watching that movie on video again would probably be seeing it on Broadway.

Independent of this being a terrible idea, are you calling Glen Hansard indie rock?! Also is there even a second male lead in that movie? The scummy chap from the Thin Lizzy cover band? Glen's da?

Most of the attraction of the movie for me anyway was seeing a popular movie in places I go to every day, it wasn't actually very good.

i was going to say that whoever made the nathan lane quip is officially funny. but joey more or less conveyed the same idea...

I just don't get why people would pay $100+ a ticket to catch a theatrical production of a show you can buy on DVD for $20 and music you can replay forever for $10. That said, I'd go see this show every day for a month before spending the night with Legally Blond, The Wedding Singer, or that Billy Joel musical ...
