Oops I Did It Again: The Original

Britney week continues at supermasterpiece.com...

"'Oops! I Did It Again' was recorded in April, 1932 in a Chicago studio, most likely Nearlie's or West and Fourth ... The song remained all-but-forgotten until sixty years later when a young Britney Spears sent her interpretation of the Armstrong tune all the way to the top of the charts."

Yes, it'a another joke, people.

But you know what's not a joke? Apparently Brit Brit and Stereogum were in the same Destin, Florida resort last weekend!

Can't you believe that shit? I'm devastated. I should've followed the trail of Cheetos on the beach.

when i was in Destin last xmas (don't ask), i was taken to see what is believed to be a giant house Britney is having built there. they don't call it the Redneck Riviera for nothing, i guess.

Amazing how a "weak impersonation" (Kevin, I agree) could sound so much more listenable than her schlock . . .

Oh. My. God. That is incredible. The site also features a pretty funny "Bissel Rap" (an example of the Hebrew hip-hop nation).

Oh my god it sounds like whomever did the Louis Armstrong recording was burping the entire song, funny, very. :)

The guy doing the Louis Armstrong imitation sounds more Grover than Louis.

These guys could have saved themselves a lot of time: Max Raabe und das Palastorchester have done an amazing cover of "Oops..." that sounds like it was ripped off a 1920's dance 78 (gave Tom Jones "Sexbomb" the same treatment). Very "Megaphone singers" sketch from Mr. Show.

Of course, it's fairly new I guess, and I haven't been in the States in a while, perhaps this version has caught on already. Mostly in gay clubs, I'd suspect. http://www.palastorchester.de

While I'm waiting for that to load, let me tell you that your afterthought of following the Cheetos to the beach made me snort Coke out of my nose - yes, I "snorted" the wrong way, har har - and now it hurts a lot.

Ow.

But then so does Britney.
