Øya, Oh Boy-A!

No rest for the weary! Got back from Chi city late last night, and today I'm on a flight to Oslo (that's Norway, y'all!) to cover the Øya Festival. Got LOST Season 2 on the PowerBook, 60 GB on the iPod, and books a plenty for the journey; what I don't have is an awareness of over half of the bands playing!

Hear great things about this Morrissey guy -- so I guess I'll check him out -- but if you have any other suggestions for coverage (or sights to see), lemme know. And if any 'Gum readers are gonna be there and want to meet up, send an e-mail to tips at stereogum dot com. We can grab a beer (I hear they're only twelve bucks!).

Festivalen lineup after the hoppe.

Check out the Samuel Jackson Five. May not be up your alley but I dig them and they are worth a listen if they are not playing opposite something bigger.

Hanne Hukkelberg is quiet, bleepy singer/songwriter stuff, like a Scand. Juana Molina, and Jaga Jazzist is MASSIVE SYNTHY PROG. They're both rec'd.

Check out Amadou & Miriam for sure. They were great here in Chicago, and well worth catching live. Yoko Ono probably shouldn't be missed either, you never know what you might get from her...

See 120 Days and report back -- they just got signed to Vice and in turn, are the first Norwegian band to ever get signed by an American label.

Just curious as to how they sound
