Death Cab For Cutie/Ra Ra Riot/Cold War Kids @ RIMAC Arena (UCSD Campus), La Jolla 4/29/09

After we premiered each track from Death Cab's new Open Door EP, the band set out on a North American tour that found its way to UC San Diego's RIMAC Arena last night. Photographer Andrew Youssef made the drive from L.A. to La Jolla (as did a lot of folks impatient for the Hollywood Bowl show in July with Tegan & Sara and the New Pornos), which featured standard cuts and EP fare along with opening sets from Ra Ra Riot and Cold War Kids (their first show back after two cancellations due to Nathan's laryngitis). Pretty bloggy bill, RIMAC. Tour dates, setlist, and lots of pics this way:

on the other hand... Ra Ra Riot and Cold War kids are both AWESOME in concert... thus the plot is exposed!

They didn't open with 405 when I saw them last week.

This concert was easily the worst I've ever seen
The sound balance for Ra Ra was painfully off
CWK played two songs from cops and robbers and 8 from Loyalty
Death Cab put on the most boring show I've ever seen. After 10+ years, you guys really have nothing to spice up your songs or alter them a tad?

you obviously don't care THAT much about Cold War Kids as their first album was entitled "Robbers and Cowards." They did play a lot from Loyalty to Loyalty at the Terminal 5 show last month. Nonetheless the St. John just added to the magnificent show.

A couple of things...

Okay, first, Ben is starting to look like Jared Leto. Not good at all.

Chris looks nice, he needs to keep what he is doing, although his shoes are a little too buttoned up for the stage.

Nick is right on target, such a badass. I only wish he would grow the neckbeard a little more. Don't be scared Nick, it will suit you well.

The drummer just rocks out, and seems to me like he couldn't care less about being a rock star. I think that is cool. He is a killer drummer.

I don't love this band, but for some reason I feel as though I care about them.

i saw these bands about a month ago in Louisville. i thought Ra Ra Riot did an AMAZING job there. they're truly musical artists. Cold War Kids - one of my favorite bands....SUCKED. i was so pissed off. they were the entire reason i went to the show and they blew. Death Cab was a good, calm show. Nothing to write home about.

ha, cops and robbers, I don't know what I was thinking.....
But there was no playing St. John at my concert.
