Neko Case/Jason Lytle @ The Greek Theatre, Los Angeles 6/12/09
The night after performing on Conan, and two nights before duetting with Triumph The Insult Comic Dog at Bonnaroo, Neko Case headlined the Greek in LA. Maybe a little ambitious as the show wasn't very well attended (photographer Andrew Youssef noted the use of camouflage covers on the many empty seats), but Ms. Case stacked with an opening set from ex-Grandaddy Jason Lytle still was one of the city's best live music options on a night where the hipster/hippie music worlds were flocking to Manchester, Tennessee. Enjoy Andrew's shots, and we'll keep you posted on what will likely be an awesome remote segment by Triumph/Robert Smigel from "Bonnapoo."

Their Portland show was great (and the Crystal was as packed as I'd ever seen it). It was nice to hear Jason bring out a few old Grandaddy favorites done in a more stripped-down synth-less style, especially "Levitz". My only complaint is that Neko is a little too perfect. I was finally able to nab "Middle Cyclone" on vinyl at the show, though.

a Neko Case show with empty seats...what's wrong with the world?

I saw the SF show at the Warfield and was pleasantly surprised at how well Jason Lytle wowed the crowd. Its great to hear those Grandaddy tunes once again. Of course Neko was amazing and I believe the Warfield was sold out for two nights. How the hell did the Greek not sell out? I was lucky to be able to see Lytle play a club in Merced, CA on Sunday to an appreciative central valley crowd (and heard twice as many Grandaddy songs played).
