Phoenix/Passion Pit @ Central Park Summerstage, NYC 9/26/09

As advertised, Phoenix treated Central Park's Summerstage to two sold-out nights of their danceable and occasionally epic insouciance this past weekend. The lineup was a synth-lover's delight, pairing the Frenchmen with the more sugar-rushed and helium-voiced keyboard pop of Massachusetts men Passion Pit in the opening slot. And it wouldn't be a Monday without news of another Phoenix remix, although this time it's more must-grabbable than usual: Neighbors team up with Warner Bro Devendra Banhart to craft this elegant retake on Wolfgang standout (redundant) "Rome." Enjoy Natasha Ryan's pics from Saturday night while you listen:

Phoenix - "Rome (Neighbors Feat. Devendra Banhart Remix)" (MP3)

That comes via Phoenix. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a good album.

Passion Pit, Miley Cyrus its all the same. (Anyone else think that new Miley Cyrus song could be a Passion Pit song had it not been for her vocals and teenage girl lyrics?)

haha phew! i thought i was alone. i thought the same thing and its mostly due to the electronics and screechy nasal vocals in both.

Well, no I don't think that Passion Pit has a similar sound to Miley Cyrus.

That said, I wish they did. Party in the USA is my number one jam right now.

Kevin, I just puked on my keyboard. Terrible comparison. Miley Sirus is aural poison and liking her ironically is irresponsible.

this concert made me jizz in my pants. i dont normally get sad about leaving home on the east coast for college in california, but this is one of those exceptions.

that said, i saw phoenix like a week and a half ago in san francisco. but passion pit wasnt opening. it was the soft pack. and they blew.

"Party in the USA" sounds more like a "Genius of Love" knock-off to me.

just listen to the synth/guitars in the chorus, anyone who doesn't admit that is at least isn't similar to passion pit isn't listening very well. while the lyrics are indeed terrible, its still the most enjoyable radio pop song ive heard in months

And apparently i have no grammer, make that "anyone who doesn't admit that "party in the usa" is at least similiar to passion pit isnt listening very well"

You really can't put it past Miley that she'd be digging Passion Pit for "indie cred" and telling whoever she pays to make her songs that she wanted her next track to sound like them. Let's just be thankful she didn't ask them to rip off Reckoner or House of Cards as funny as that would be.

Really Aaron? Listening and dissecting Miley Cyrus. You are VERY COOL MUSIC CRITIC.............

I brought up the Passion Pit comparison in the first place, so here's my two cents: Basically you're saying that acknowledging a successful mainstream pop musician such as Miley Cyrus discredits Aaron's opinion because you personally feel mainstream pop like Miley is worthless and discreditable. What you're missing is the point that the pop musician was brought up only because her sound is similar to what a band in the indie scene (aka something you apparently means automatic coolness) is doing. You don't make sense.

Aaron, you're opinion is more openminded than someone like DorkLords and I was happy to read someone else wasn't too proud to recognize parallels between music made for 11 year olds and music that 20something your "mature, hip, cool" music fans listen to.

Apparently not. It's grammar.
