PJ Harvey & John Parish @ El Rey Theatre, Los Angeles 3/23/09

Some 12 years after Dance Hall At Louse Point, Polly and Parish will release their jointly billed A Woman Walked By LP, next Tuesday (3/30) via Island Records. It's gotten off to a good start. Last night the pair hit L.A.'s El Rey Theatre in celebration, the first of only two shows they've scheduled for now (the second is at the Filmore at Irving Plaza in NYC on Thursday 3/26). HOWEVER it's worth noting our photographer Andrew Youssef, who filed these photos, reports that Polly teased the crowd with a "See you in June" send-off. Here's last night's setlist, if you need to get more excited. For now, try this two-part Q&A with Polly and John as they discuss the record. Some song snippets in there, too. They are cool.

Part 2...

And for some bonus, here's PJ and JH doing "Black Hearted Love" at SXSW:

Black Hearted Love is the best rock song I have heard in quite a while. Can't wait until Thurs to see her. CD sounds like another winner. She blows away every other woman in popular music.

Damn you, I just posted a comment yesterday complaining about picture-gallery posts without pretty girls, and you punish me with pictures of P. J. Harvey. She was no Joan Jett even in her prime, but nowadays... yikes. Dear God.

What cruel irony that P. J. Harvey is the heterosexual one. For me, I mean. The dykes in the audience are having a well-earned laugh at my expense.

And she's wearing f*****g bunny ears, looks like. That is so goddamn wrong, so unspeakably, inhumanly, unimaginably wrong... WTF?!

Her records always sucked anyway, so now that she's a bony old harridan she can just hang it the hell up, for God's sake. But maybe she'll pull a Jim Morrison and suddenly sprout talent at the end of her career. And then die. That would be cool. I'd forgive her the bunny ears if she made one great album and keeled over dead as a f*****g mackerel.

Ummm...pretty sure the "bunny ears" are wires for in-ear monitors. They're waaaaay creepier/funnier on Thom Yorke.

As far as talent, what the hell have YOU done that's a tenth as good as Polly and John on their worst day?

i like pj harvey but the "what have you done?" defense could be used by ANYONE to defend ANYTHING...like Nickleback...do i make better music than Nickleback? No since i don't make music....but does that change the fact that they suck? Hmmm

That last clip is a beautful performance...hopefully the new Tonight Show won't let somebody so good pass through town without giving a serious shit...rather than just another night at the office...but then the crowd is just a bunch of dorks on vacation anyway right?

They're also scheduled to play in Paris sometime soon. Not sure when but I keep seeing their faces in the Metro.
