The Decemberists @ Hollywood Palladium 5/19/09

When the Decemberists (and Shara Worden) played "The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid" on Leno, it felt a bit fragmented. There was no such problem last night in Hollywood when the band launched their A Short Fazed Hovel Tour. Over the course of the 2-hour set, they tackled Hazards Of Love in its entirety and performed a slew of other songs from their oeuvre ("A lot of dead people songs," Colin Meloy quipped). They did Hazards without taking a break or addressing the crowd, maximizing the collection's rock-to-orchestral transitions. The group was joined by Shara Worden and Becky Stark, who both sang their respective Hazards parts. After a 20-minute intermission, they hit an additional nine songs, culminating in "I Was Meant For The Stage," which found the band sprawled all over the... stage. Take a look at Andrew Youssef's photos and pretend you were there, singing along to "Sons And Daughters."

Any word on a complete second-half set list? Sounds like they're at least bringing the heavy stuff.

Same here. I'm still holding out for a Mariner's Revenge revival.

I saw them at Brandeis University last month and they closed out the show with Mariner's Revenge (the overall set was actually pretty nice, essentially a greatest hits collection). I think they just want to take a general break from it so it doesn't get too old. Could Mariner's ever get old? Of course not, but that's the only possible reason why they aren't playing it three times a day.

Great show! Hazards of love was perfect live except for hazards of love (revenge!) because of the vocals but that was expected. I really wanted to hear the mariner's revenge song but I was meant for the stage was a cool track. Overall, awesome show! Worth the drive from Vegas to Hollywood.

I'm a long-time Decemberists' fan, but "Hazards" is an even bigger disaster than "Skeletal Lamping." I certainly would take my sweet time getting to their show if I were to see them on this tour (about 58:36 from their announced set time--give or take).

Oh, this band sounds cool!
it´s always fun to discover new music!

Here in Sweden there is a new guy that all of you in America should be aware of. His name is Erik Hassle, feel free to look him up!
