I once volunteered for the Ben Folds Five Hospitality crew in college and had to wake up at 8AM on a Sunday to meticulously arrange the "ubiquitous deli platter." You can imagine my disappointment when none of the guys touched it. Great concert, though.

I seem to recall that when I was 19 I could eat the same four things for days in a row, but how exciting can it possibly be to know that when you're done performing, the finest of grape jellies and a bag of oreos await you?
When I go on my world tour, my rider will simply read "Surprise me. And if it sucks, we're ordering pizzas and putting it on YOUR credit card."

I worked crew for a few bands with these kinds of riders in college, and usually they never touched the food either. The riders often also include extra funds specifically for the bands to go to a restaurant after the show, anyway. Who wants to eat cold cuts n' jelly sammiches every night?
The good side of all this was that whatever the band didn't touch we got to take home with us. This often resulted in lots of free beer and food.
