Pop Corn

We get lots of e-mail from bands, video directors, and bloggaz asking us to pimp their stuff. But I think this is our first from an editor. Jeff writes in:

Basically, I'm a NYC-based video editor and I've found that, unlike writers and artists who can create their art from scratch, an editor has to edit something. So, as a lover of movies and music, I used that as my jumping-off point-- cutting movies to songs that are either about the movie or can inform them.

Anyway, I've cut Misery to the Green Day song "Pulling Teeth" and Citizen Kane to the White Stripes' "Union Forever," a song whose every lyric is a line of dialogue from the film. My latest one is called 2002. It's Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey to Mellow's "Fantastic."

The Misery one's funny. It's like one of those TV commercials that uses inappropriate music to market a movie (e.g., Shopgirl promo featuring DCFC's "The Sound Of Settling"). Elizabethtown's taken it to hilarious new level, though: Tom Petty's "Learning To Fly" is in the chick flick version of the commercial; Tom Petty's "You Wreck Me" is in the comedy spot.

Anyway, I digress. Nice job Jeff!

RELATED: Elaine writes in:

Hey, Stereogum. I'm sure you're familiar with The Notwist but since their somewhat old song "Consequence" is featured in the new movie Shopgirl, I figured readers might like a copy. It's a great song, even if Notwist are sort of uneven. Grab it here if you like:

The Notwist - "Consequence" (MP3)

I enjoyed listening to the song used in House, BTW. Didn't know who it was before.

I'm looking for the instrumental track featured in the movie Domino. If you have that please share, and, in the meantime, I did find video of Keira Knightley's lap dance in trade.

I saw Domino last Saturday night. It wasn't as good as I was hoping, but it wasn't bad.

Sorry, didn't see Domino so I don't know what the instrumental track is. But thanks for the lapdance.

Thanks for the Notwist, I take exception to this comment, though:
"It's a great song, even if Notwist are sort of uneven", at least in regards to their last two albums...

13 & God will make my top 10 of 2005.

Hybrid and Junkie XL did a lot of the film's score, but if this movie clip is still accurate, it's some random R&B song.

Yes, I meant Notwist in general. Some of the earlier stuff isn't the greatest. But I really like this, plus a lot of their other stuff.

Also to update -- I think I've found the answer to my own questions:

Groove Armada - "Hands Of Time"

Tom Jones - "Momma Told Me Not To Come"

Harry Gregson - Williams - Man On Fire

Nine Inch Nails - a couple songs

Bach - "St. Matthew Passion"

Macy Gray - [she sang something]

Xzibit - "Choke Me, Spank Me (Pull My Hair)" - "Mutha Fucka" - "The Gambler"

Nitty - "Nasty Girl"
