Time To Start Coachoosing Your Coachella 2008 Itinerary

thumbnail icon: Time To Start Coachoosing Your Coachella 2008 Itinerary

Pack your sunscreen and get ready to dehydrate: it's Coachella week, and if you're making your way out to the desert, this post's for you. Goldenvoice's finally released the timetables for this weekend's indie fun in Indio, so while you'll want to deflect your general animosity towards all things not of your own design unto them and their penchant for scheduling conflicts, it won't work -- things aren't that bad this year. Aside from a Les Savy Fav/Battles/Black Kids jam up around 3PM on Friday, it's just the 5-6PM hour that gets a little hairy (with sets spilling into that timeslot from the Breeders, Vampire Weekend, Múm, Cut Copy, Jens Lekman). The rest of the day is fairly easily navigable, and Jack Johnson's headlining so you can get your beauty rest, or your afterparty on, or do it up with the Black Lips.

Saturday, you're choosing either to camp out at the mainstage from 6:30PM through to day's end for the fairly unreal Death Cab/Kraftwerk/Portishead/Prince lineup OR you're shuffling around the rest of the grounds to catch Hot Chip, Islands, M.I.A., Animal Collective, and Akron/Familiy on various stages (hint, though: the latter group tours more, so you're probably better to go with the mainstage blockbusters on this day). Sunday won't present too many conflicts, either: this is when you'll get your Dark Side fix, which you can wash down either with the dance-ready Modeselektor/Simian Mobile Disco/Chromeo/Justice slate at the Sahara tent, or the stonerrific Black Mountain at Mojave. You can't go wrong. We are excited. Check the scheds after the jump.

Click and watch them grow.

And Coachremember coacheverybody, you can get super coachorganized with the Coachooser.

Rumors of Coachella having a down year have been greatly exaggerated to the point of being completely inaccurate. Best. Damned. Weekend of the Year. Malkmus to Hot Chip to Islands to MIA to Portishead to Prince in one day? By all means distract the chumps w/ Jack Johnson & Roger Waters. More for us at the other 4 stages.

even with the weak lineup the scheduling conflicts are awful...spiritualized vs. mmj.

I call bullshit.

I saw Kraftwerk two days ago, and it was fucking unreal. It might have been the best concert i've ever seen (although i'm a little biased since i'm a huge fan of theirs.) I don't know if they will have their full stage show for the festival, but it is definitely worth checking out even if you're not a huge fan of theirs.

Animal Collective, especially if you are seeing Islands and so you can avoid the pool of flourescent-clad teenage girls.

Why would we want to avoid fluorescent-clad teenage girls? I spend most of my time looking for them...

Coachella or staying home? Staying home wins, Coachella definitely peaked a few years ago when Radiohead headlined it and there was a solid lineup on both days.
