Preview Gwen's Sweet Escape

If you're all wound up for the contents of Gwen's photoshopped hottness, head here for clips from each track of her forthcoming album. No, we don't normally link to 30 second previews -- but we'll make the except for Bob Dylan and, uh, the chick from No Doubt.

Obviously thirty secs isn't much to go on, but you can hear that Gwen's flashing a lot of looks and -- the yodelicious "Wind It Up" aside -- pulling 'em off pretty well! The title track is a breezy, girl-group throwback, followed by the more miss-than-hit West Coast street thug ballad "Orange County Girl" (she's hard, G) -- but then "Early Winter" redeems with a perfectly '80s-starlet hook. "Yummy"'s got a Timbaland-y beat, and there are other dirrrty shouts to the dancefloors, but "4 In The Morning" and "Fluorescent" are that good mix of booty-shaking groove and Gwen Stefani glitz. We'll wait 'til we can hear, ya know, at least a minute of each song before saying we love it, but the clips are promising! Or maybe that's just the coffee talking.

Save for a few tracks, most of this stuff feels "unfinished" and seems liek it could be a bonus trackk, not an actual album song.
And "Yummy" sounds like "popozao". Not hot.

i agree that they sound promising, and a lot better than her l.a.m.b. stuff. but maybe that's just my soft spot for stefani talking. but what's with "orange county girl?" is that like her version of "jenny from the block?"

i'm excited about this album, though the blatant referencing of "Wind it Up" and the fact that it sounds so much like Fergie is kind of frightening. And even the video, http://obtusity.blogspot.com/2006/11/what-we-waited-for.html, is really commercialized and sort of the antithesis of "What You Waiting For" (which was awesome).

Peter - I believe it actually the other way around. Fergie blatantly ripped off Gwen. Check out Glamorous in comparison to Luxorious.
Fergie Ferg is a shitty mess.

yeah i agree fergie totally made a solo career off of kind of sounding like gwen, but i was just pointing out that on wind it up gwen sounds like fergie doing gwen, during the entire first verse of this song i just kept hearing those really bad lines from fergies "london bridges," which has a beat that originally reminded me of "hollaback girl". and that's what frightening because yes, fergie is a shitty mess.

If you like Gwen you have to be willing to accept a very wide range of musical styles - all of them tied together with her amazing voice and style. I think The Sweet Escape is an awesome second album. I loved oldschool ND the ska stuff (Beacon Street Collection, etc), but Gwen has always changed like a chameleon from album to album and while I think this album is similar to the sounds on L.A.M.B - it's way different too, and fun to listen to for entirely it's own unique reasons.

I love it.
