Preview Killers' Day & Age

thubmnail icon: Preview Killers' Day & Age

After aping Springsteen and Bono, Brandon Flowers allegedly set out to write like Arctic Monkeys and MGMT for LP3. Day & Age doesn't sound like those bands, but the vibe is more fun (thanks in part to producer Stuart Price) than that of meaningfulcore Sam's Town. At least based on thirty second samples of each song. A true evaluation would be premature even for us, but for the impatient a single stream of ten song snippets awaits.

Day & Age is out 11/24 on Island.

Why does this sound like 1986?

Coupled with the saxes on a few tracks, it is a bit Robert Palmer-esque. I can't make a sound opinion based on 10 second clips, though.

sounds like a bit of a let down. sam's town was not bad at all, and often great (all of the singles+my list) but eeeeeeeshhhh i don't know about this. there seam to be a couple glimmers though.

I found myself so stupid...I was a fan when they came with that wonderful debut...

Since Sam they just play like ugly puppets for empty people...

Who says this album gives magic...Is totally wrong.

Shame on all these new Keane, Snow Patrol, Killers...Wich sucks in such subtile ways...

MUSIC IS POWER !!!

Look at all the fuckin yuppies once again trying to diss this album and The Killers. Its getting rave reviews from everyone already so maybe if youd all just go change your little indie tampons and listen to the fucking songs, youd see that they're some of The Killers best.

I thought it was only yuppies that liked the Killers in the first place, so WTF are you on about?

Cody, I like indie music, and I also like The Killers. So stop being such an ass. Why do people get so fricking weird about music commentary?

The bigger question is "why do people hate the killers so much?" Im biased cause they were my first concert before they got big, "somebody told me" but I never understood all the hate.

they are:

-shticky
-the opposite of innovative
-entirely insincere
-writers of crappy c-rate 80's garbage
-entirely uncreative
-one word: guyliner

and yet they sell millions of records, have sold-out concerts, get nominated for music awards and have the vote of music living legends like lou reed, bono, elton john and most recently paul mccartney.

Everything you said is not true, listen to their music, find the meaning and deepness of each song, then you can actually make a statement that's worth something

ha! anyone who doesn't like the killers obviously isn't open to good music. you listen to any of their albums twice and you'll realize that it's some of the deepest, best written music in 20 years. plus they don't give a damn about their critics, they just keep puttin out awesome music for the real fans who actually know about good music. they are the best
rock band in over 20 years. PERIOD.

Call it "Indie Rock Pete Syndrome".

Sounds like they tried some legitimately new stuff here. Granted, some of it may not work, but there are some potential gems here - especially "A Dustland Fairytale". It'll leak next week and we can all spew then.

this band has talent. It will be cool when they lock into their sound- their current
path lacks soul - hopefully they'll be back-

I dont know guys. I LOVED The Killers first album and had a few faves on the second album as well - was being optimistic about this one - but apparently many of the bloggers + writers who have been attending the listening sessions at Island - are less than thrilled or impressed........

What the heck? The Killers keep sliding away from the glam indy R&R that I love them for. This sounds like soft rock/muzak. I hope I am mistaken when I hear the whole thing

I hope I am wrong but this album sounds boring and as many people have mentioned like a throwback to the eighties.

They've just gained instant points for this:

Maybe if they keep doing covers of 80's songs they'll redeem themselves.

so far this album just seems like an extremely poppy, boring album full of songs that dont really move you as much as the older ones did. the older tunes had more to them than this one seems to have. they're not bad songs as much as they're just lacking the emotion and excitement that the others have.

6 good songs, 4 bad. The problem is, the good aren't good enough to balance out the bad ones...which are really, really bad. "World we live in" is A-W-F-U-L.

:(

Give it a chance. I bet anybody who has this album on their radar will either like it at first or grow to like it after a while. Its the killers... of course its not bad.

sounds good. i'm actually one of the few supporters of Sam's Town and don't really care for the debut. but i'll pick this up. if it's anything like the last album, it'll take a few listens to get into it.

I think a whole lot of people are just jealous of The Killlers meteoric rise to fame. Hot Fuss was outstanding as was Sam's Town, and Day and Age will prove to be just as popular. Brandon Flowers is an outstanding songwriter who has written many many songs that the crowd love to singalong to. They are hugely popular with a very large following, but there will always be the minority who will continue to write negative comments about them.
