Prince Preps Three Albums, Studies The Bible With Gay Friends

Three albums? Homosexual Bible studies? Prince you stole all of my New Year's resolutions. According to a 12/31 post on the LA Times blog, in which Ann Powers gets the "Golden Ticket" of an invite to Prince's Mulholland Drive mansion, the tiny (bat)dancer has lots of interesting things going on in his life. In other news, it's 2009. Prince invited the journo over to hear all the new music he's working on, which is so much. Also the journo found out how much Prince enjoys reading the good book with gay people, which is also so much. We recently got a listen at a few "guitar-heavy" new Prince tunes, which it turns out was just the tip, Prince likes to give just the tip. Here's what Ann Powers had to say:

Prince will release not one, but three albums in the new year. He's in final negotiations with "a major retailer" to distribute the music in physical form, and a highly interactive website will also provide an opportunity to buy. He's not working with a record label. "The gatekeepers have to change," he said several times throughout the evening.

In describing the records, the Times says the first disc, tentatively titled MPLSOUND, "is an electro-flavored solo effort recorded at Paisley Park Studios" using Pro Tools and other experimental recording techniques. It's got Q-Tip on a song. Another song-set's called Lotus Flower, it's the "guitar-heavy" one, all solos and riffs, with a song inspired by comedian Dick Gregory.

Finally, about that apparently Prop 8-supporting New Yorker quote that all y'all commented on, not only did Prince not vote for the Prop, but also he's still upset about being mischaracterized:

The controversy over a recent New Yorker "Talk of the Town" item, which Prince feels implied he supported the gay-marriage ban, has upset him. It's the first thing he wanted to discuss when the Web geeks had gone and we were alone. "I have friends that are gay and we study the Bible together," he said. He added that two sides fighting "only benefit the third person" who instigated the fight.

Cool. New fight: "Web geeks"? That is Us, but only We get to call Us that. The third-person instigator here is Ann Powers, a woman calling people "web geeks" via blog post, awesome.

Anyway -- happy new year everybody! Nice to be back.

Raspberry Beret is still way up there as far as best singles from the 8o's go ... ..................the song was mediocre but I was reminded how much he can smoke on the guitat on SNL...that may have been the best performance from last year...

I want to know what kind of gays will show up to a "Read the Bible Party?" Not the ones I'm sleeping with, that's for sure.

Reading the Bible with with your gay friends is rather passe in 2009, don't you think?

Dear Readers, in 2009 it's all about Bible roleplaying games. Use your imagination what kind of twist my friends and I have with our Noah's Ark and Last Supper reenactments.

And in the meantime, dig if you will:

sooooo.........Pro Tools is an experimental recording technique? At this point I think a reel-to-reel is more experimental.

it's not a stretch for me to think of a visit to the Purple One's palace as a "Golden Ticket" experience. He's reclusive enough, he guards all his creations with militant censure (even 'creations' that aren't his - thank you Radiohead), and all the oompa-loompas around help him feel tall
