Quality. Value. Goo.

While you were watching SVU, John Rzeznik and co. made their QVC debut last night! The Goo guys brought the Quality Value Channel film crew to the 9:30 Club in D.C. to talk about their eighth album Let Love In and the special QVC-only video/performance DVD Live And Intimate. Does this mean the Goo Goo Dolls have officially killed off the shred of integrity that remained? Or did that happen around the time of "Iris"? Said QVC Director of Merchandising Rich Yoegel:

Having The Goo Goo Dolls on QVC will expose the band to a new audience in a unique way and certainly attract new customers to QVC. In addition, the broadcast provides viewers with a kind of "all access" feel, which many fans don't get to enjoy firsthand.
We missed the All Access Pass! YouTube, don't fail us now. At over fourteen dollars off the retail price, these babies are priced to move, no?

Holy Sellout, Batman. Rzeznick is trying to top his good friend Mark McGrath in the Douchebag Olympics.

No, it doesn't. It means they are trying to make a living just like you and me.

This appearance actually made the local news in Buffalo.

the GGD last 5 albums have all been incredible, LET LOVE IN was one of last year's best in my opinion. It does seem a bit strange that they've gone on QVC to advertise their album...but really...who gives a fuck?! let them do what they want to do - they rock. you don't.

I won't lie, I've got some Goo Goo Dolls on my iPod. But QVC??? That's just gay.

Too bad Nick Cave didn't do the same for his Let Love In. The firsthand "all access" feel he and his band would provide just excites me more than the goo goo dolls. How's about it Rick?

The Goo Goo Dolls had a shred of integrity? Who knew?

I'm sure they're all nice guys, but that doesn't make them immune to ridicule. If you put yourself (and your cookie cutter factory rock) out there, then you're fair game. I'm sure they're crying all the way to the bank while we make fun of them.

If Goo fans (how ridiculous does that sound?) are looking for sympathy, I say stop whining and think about getting some better taste. Something a little more original and less glossy would help.

I once bought a backstage pass for a Replacements show from Johnny Rzeznick for 40 dollars.
He snuck me in the side door, told me not to tell anyone, then he asked for the pass back presumably so he could sell it again.
Now THAT'S INTEGRITY!

It doesnt' bother me that they're doing the QVC thing, but dude's hair is in his face.
And he's wearing a Ramones shirt.
And he is wearing a necklace.

He must be indie or punk rock or rock and roll or something.

Well, *they're* the ones hawking themselves on QVC, inviting ridicule and purchases of their albums from uninitiated grandmas all over America. Maybe that's what they're banking on.

This story isn't about their music, and that's their own fault.

"This story isn't about their music, and that's their own fault."

Stories, articles, music blogs and reviews about the Goo Goo Dolls are rarely about their music. Nine times out of ten, reviews regarding the Goo Goo Dolls and their music will invariably turn to...

1. How they are Replacement wannabe's
2. How they've sold out
3. Rzeznik's "pretty boy" looks
4. Rzeznik's hair
5. How all they sing are sappy ballads
6. Takac's terrible vocals

They have been music critics and music snobs "whipping boys" for the past 20 years. For whatever reason these people choose to ignore the fact that the Goo Goo Doll's music has been Grammy nominated, that they've won Billboard and RMA Awards, their music has been featured on TV shows and numerous movie soundtracks, they are selling out most of the venues on their current tour, and, most recently, they broke the record for having the most (12) top 10 hits on the AC charts.

The fact that they've been able to successfully maintain a presence in the music world for the past 20 years speaks volumes. How many bands do you know who have done the same?

I'm not asking you to like their music but at least give credit where credit is due.

Yeah seriously, who names their album the same damn name as albums that already exist.. ok, ok, with the exception of all the Black Album and White Album ego-freaks. Now I guess I'm waiting for someone to put out another Electric Larryland.

They won Billboard Awards? I totally love them now!! But seriously, their drummer won't even look at the camera - what's up with that?

Well, I'm neither a music critic nor a music snob. I don't care for these guys. I'm not entitled to an opinion? I don't care for their their music because I don't think it's very good. How's that for plain talk. Congrats to them on the soundtrack and television work, but that's behind the scenes more than it's arena rockout. Whatever. They've won "industry" awards, which impresses you, but not me. There are other bands and musicians that have been around for twenty years -- are you kidding? What a goof you are. Here's the bottom line. The people who don't dig on Johnny & co. for whatever reason can't be guilted into changing their minds, no matter what you've told yourself. The QVC thing is icing on the cheesecake.

I think you missed my "goofy" point. My point was that the Goo Goo Dolls are doing the same thing that many other bands are doing out there today but, in my opinion, they are constantly being beat up by the music critics and music snobs. I happen to feel that the Goo Goo Dolls music is no worse than some of the other music that's getting airplay today.

I did not call you a music critic or music snob. My comment was not aimed at anyone in particular. And I was in no way trying to guilt anyone into anything. Just trying to make a point.

Sincerely,
The Goof

Oh no I'm his little sister, because I'm about to defend the band. Just thought I'd confirm your stupid assumption before continuing.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and to have their own taste in music. That's a given. But in my opinion, insulting a musician or group can only be done in a lugitimate way. Don't bother hating on the lead singer and his hair, his looks, ect. That's just stupid. The band exists to play music, so talk about their music. And be able to back it up. Be able to honestly say that you've listened to a few of their CDs without a prejudice. Don't just sit on your ass and type about the band members themselves, or the titles of the albums, ect. Let's be mature. Let's actually have something to say about the music itself, besides "LOL ZOMG IT SUCKS".

peace.

id like to see you making millions everyday.

you all have to sit here on your fat asses
and complain about them.
