Radio Bonnaroo Offers Lineup Clues

This week comes official word on Bonnaroo's official 2008 festival lineup, but this year the pre-announce guessing game is literally just that: In advance of the big reveal, Radio Bonnaroo's offered up eleven riddles pertaining to the biggest acts (or more likely, those acts most conducive to being hinted at via riddle). Reader Joey T. sent 'em in, so take a break from Facebook Scrabulous and do something worthwhile for a change (get 'em right and win bragging points!)...

  1. "There is more than one Manchester"
  2. "Memphis isn't Albany"
  3. "Clouds taste this way"
  4. "Some Herrings are red, Jimmy"
  5. "Hard Substance, Soft Substance"
  6. "Janis Joplin's reserves will be preserved"
  7. "Rumors are just rumors, but twist them sideways, grow your humor hair and they become a more yen reality. No, this is not about Fleetwood Mac"
  8. "It's not sour, what is sowed in the earth"
  9. "Three certain birds, add one"
  10. "Look to the center of Europe to get the sound, but the band comes from all around."
  11. "Here is another clue for you message board people. Open up the church and you will see the steeple. Some of your guesses have been way off but correct for the wrong clues. Now I must cough."
Enrich us.

UPDATE: Joey writes in with one more fresh one, from today...

12. Charlie's imaginary band will not be playing and don't believe what he wrote on his hand and the last few things he was not saying.
"Now they are just trying to wear my mind out by mixing up LOST and Bonnaroo," he says. True! But at least you know for sure DriveSHAFT won't be there.

I think 10 is Gogol Bordello, though that's not much of a riddle if so.

Chris and Niklas: I don't think the first clue refers to a band at all but rather the Bonnaroo festival site, which is in Manchester, Tennessee.

Anyone else notice that the Bonnaroo site crashed/was taken down? When is the announcement this week?

yeah, 3 is definitely the flaming lips. TFL has played bonnaroo every year since i was born, probably. and they have dates the week before and the week after bonnaroo.

#1: Oasis.
#2: Allman Bros?
#3: Metallica
#4: A play on Jimmy Herring? Phil Lesh & Friends?
#5: Iron & Wine?
#6: No freaking clue.
#7: Again, no freaking clue.
#8: A play on salt? Salty music? Modest Mouse?
#9: Zeppelins are airships, or "birds." There are three remaining members, but they would need to add a drummer. Hmm... reaching?
#10: Beirut
#11: When I "open the church" I see 8 fingers. "All the people" = All the members of the band? 8 members of a band with an affection for churches? Recording in a church, concerts in churches, religious themed albums? Sounds like Arcade Fire. And a fire causes smoke, which makes you cough. Again, reaching?

Hmmm #1 might be Morrissey. He is referred to as "Mr. Manchester".
Arctic Monkeys would be good, but they are from Sheffield,England I believe.

Don't be such pretentious douches. Metallica WAS awesome. If they play For Whom the Bell Tolls and Orion(ect.) It would make a criminally insane event. All of those sleepless hippies, all drugged out and bumping into one another...
Frickin' rawk-n-roll, maaaaaaaan!!!

Manchester Orchestra is likely.

No Arcade Fire.

Candlebox & Seven Mary Three just dropped off of the festival (according to my sources). The two have a co-headlining tour planned this summer, and Bonnaroo conflicts with the opening date at the Indiana State Fair (w/ Diamond Rio).

Sour = Kraus, Earth = Plant...

3 Certain Birds + 1:
Black Crowes + Jimmy Page...

And... that brings hope of Superjam?!!?
