Radioheading Into The Studio (But Probably Not As Soon As The BBC Would Have You Think)

thumbnail icon: Radioheading Into The Studio (But Probably Not As Soon As The BBC Would Have You Think)

Ah BBC, so wily with their broadcasting of British communications all the time. After Radiohead's interview with 6 Music, bbc.co.uk ran a madly re-blogged article subtitled: "The band tell 6 Music about their plans to finish another new record." That's fair, they do talk about that. But about this large-fonted pullquote:

"We've finished the main bulk of it and we're off to Japan in a couple of weeks to finish it off." Colin Greenwood

Objection: misleading the internet. The "it" they've finished the "main bulk of," and they're "off to Japan in a couple of weeks to finish," is very likely not an album, but their current tour. See? The final dates for this year are in Japan, in a couple of weeks. Fire your pullquote editor on contextual grounds. (Or, give your pullquote editor a raise. Congrats on the traffic!) That said, the band clearly have their minds on an In Rainbows followup. Said RadioEd:

We're still talking about doing some stuff and we're really excited about it. First we came off tour to do some writing and we wanted to just carry on doing it because it was so brilliant.

So they're still talking about it, which is good news. And they want to carry on doing it, which is brilliant. As Radiohead's said repeatedly, this next one's pricing probably will not be up to you, no really, and it also probably won't win the Mercury Prize (again). However, it definitely will be good traffic for everyone, with or without the misleading pullquotes.

Eh, it'll be out in 2010 if we're lucky. And, maybe, just maybe, it'll be the last record.

I agree with Kidgloves, it'll be a while before we hear some new studio materal. I mean, look at how long it took to record 'In Rainbows'.

I don't know about it being their last album though. I'd say another couple, at least.

i figure that given their history it's quite possible LP 8 is out sooner rather than later. the first three albums came out within a 5 year period, and the second 3 came out within less than 3 years of each other. thom's talked about these cycles of creativity before, and that the band goes in spurts and then takes a lot of time off. so.

"We're about to start rehearsing some new songs," Colin Greenwood told PS. "Nigel will definitely produce them."

He added: "We're excited about the new songs, they've got a really good spirit to them. Rather than consider them as singles or albums, we hope to put them out as soon as we're happy with them."

But you still have yet to disprove the simple fact that Elbow is better and more talented than Radiohead.

what you are trying to say is that elbow is better than radiohead. i dont even need to begin to refute this.

Or more accurately, that you don't know how to refute such a fact.

Why the hell is someone comparing Radiohead to some other band in these comments? What's the point? Are you Elbow's manager, Ben N. Whoever or what?!

No, I just enjoy well-created, thoughtful, interesting music, which Radiohead has not make since releasing that pile of shit Amnesiac.

But you didn't answer my question: What's the point of your comments? Most of the people who read this article are Radiohead fans and they don't give a fuck about your opinion. They won't stop listening to Radiohead and start adoring Elbow. So you're just wasting your time and irritating people for no use. You're just so ridiculous, telling someone that his favourite band is crap and yours is great. Especially under this article, which has nothing to do with Elbow or "that pile of shit Amnesiac", it's just informing about Radiohead's new album.

Let's cut ben some slack everybody.. he's clearly in a bad mood and is blowing off steam by attempting to discredit the excitement of us Radiohead fans. He must've forgotten that Radiohead is one of, if not the best band of our generation (along with Wilco in MY OPINION).
Please take note that I state Wilco's excellence as my opinion and not an irrefutable fact. ..there is no need for rebuttle from Wilco haters.. if they exist.

Asleep in the back is a great album, I saw them on the tour and it doesn't come close to OK Computer. It looks like you are getting cross about something though Ben, you appear to be forgetting your grammer. The sentance you were attempting to construct would be Elbow ARE better than Radiohead, Elbow are not a thing they are a group. An Elbow song IS preferable to a Radiohead song under your personal conditions of taste etc, but your pointless attacks on anyone with a different perspective belittles you. They are all very rich men who make lovely music, shut up about it unless you have some positivity to share!

Sorry, but Elbow and Radiohead are both collective nouns and, therefore, can agree with a singular verb form like "is." Example: Radiohead is my favorite band.

You fail. Thanks for trying.

I'm all for Radiohead, don't get me wrong here...

but your criticizing this blokes intelligence and you've gone and spelt "grammar" and "sentence" wrong...
