Rare Air

Some news about Stereogum's favorite Frenchies. Air gave us one of last year's best albums Talkie Walkie, which spawned a handful of must-own remixes. This site is even named after a lyric from "Radio #1"! So I write about them whenever possible.

  • On 11/8 Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel release a chill comp for the always-blogworthy Late Night Tales series. Don't have a full tracklist, but it will include Nick Drake, Code ChesnuTT, The Who, Blur, Phoenix, Scott Walker, Devo, and The Troggs. Like Flaming Lips' mix, Air's CD will include an exclusive cover ... Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain." Go here to read about Air's other awesome mixes.

  • Then there's Blue Safari: A Bluegrass Tribute to Air. (Thanks Fazed And Confused for the heads up.) If you thought "Playground Love" needed less Moog and more banjo, this album's for you.
Bluegrass Air - "Kelly Watch The Stars" (MP3 Sample)
Bluegrass Air - "Sexy Boy" (MP3 Sample)
  • Finally, Jere heard this mash-up and thought of me. It's terrible, but whatever -- here ya go:
Prosac - "Cherry Blossom Sk8er (Air VS Avril)" (MP3)
I miss the the Avril museum.

Good God. Listen. Let's never talk of Avril again, ok? Look how she's been good and quiet. Let's keep it this way. I feel the same as when people just gotten over the Spice Girls.

It's like being in the eye of the storm.

That mash-up killed something inside me.

    :(

But the bluegrass songs made me feel better.

I'm sorry to say I just sold my copy of "Talkie Walkie." It just didn't hold my interest. As for the remixes, there is a pretty good EP of remixes for the songs "Alpha Beta Gaga" and "Surfing on a Rocket". I sold that, too, but not before I ripped the songs onto my computer. "Moon Safari" is still their best, in my opinion.

Yeah, that mashup is pretty disappointing. But it had two Stereogum favorites, so...I had to share the pain.

Well, I thought I found a copy of 'Deck Safari' on eBay but the track listing is totally different than the one you list? Have you heard this one? Is it a fake or what?

I think the Virgin Suicides soundtrack is one of the most under-appreciated Air albums. Never tire of hearing it.
