ReAct Now Concert

I'm at work now, lending a hand to the MTV/VH1/CMT Katrina Benefit Concert website. I'll be here 'til at least 2 AM, but it's for a good cause. Hopefully we'll get some free Red Bull up in the joint.

It's quite a line-up...

The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney, Alan Jackson, 3 Doors Down, Kelly Clarkson, Brian Wilson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Melissa Etheridge, The Neville Brothers, Trent Reznor, Cash Money's Baby, Motley Crue, Simple Plan, Dashboard Confessional, Goo Goo Dolls, Staind, Good Charlotte, Audioslave, Common, John Mayer, Marc Broussard, Maroon 5, The Radiators, Ludacris, Green Day, Usher, Alicia Keys, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews Band, Rob Thomas, David Banner, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, Coldplay, Hank Williams, Jr., Jon Stewart, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Allen Toussaint, Bon Jovi, Elton John, Fiona Apple, Big & Rich, Emmylou Harris, Buckwheat Zydeco, Dennis Quaid, Sugarland, George Lopez, Beck, Jewel, Chris Thomas King
...and the setlist is killer. There's paparazzi outside, though I'm not sure why -- most of the performances are being taped elsewhere.

Anyway, tune in and make a donation if you can! I hope Neil and Skynyrd bury the hatchet.

Cheers, Scott! Good lookin' out on the relief assistance tip.

I posted an essay on The Arcade Fire's performance with Bowie (!) on "Fashion Rocks" (which awkwardly shoe-horned Red Cross in out of last-minute celebrity guilt) last night:

I was actually in attendance for the taping of the song Pearl Jam contributed. It was a great show, but not too sure how well the song fit the cause.

I think Mary J. Blige needs to replace Bono after that performance in the benefit concert on the major networks last night. Holy crap that was good.

Does anyone have video of Dr. John doing "Walking to New Orleans" to close Shelter From The Storm? Or maybe an mp3?

His performance just killed me. From the moment he began to sing, I couldn't take it. Oh great! I'm getting all teary again. :(

Did anyone else think that Kelly Clarkson's cover of Ray LaMontagne's "Shelter" was great?! I heard it coming from the other room and I ran in to see who it was singing it, and I was amazed at how good she did it!

i thought trent reznor was great. not a big NIN fan, but "hurt" just kills me every time. it's so easy to just associate johnny cash with that song now, cause he did such an amazing job, but trent nailed it last night.

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Premature Evaluation: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

Pushing Noel off a stage in Toronto might bruise the erstwhile Oasis mouthpiece's ribs (maybe even his spirits) and cause the band to cancel a show or two, but nothing can stop the slow procession toward a new Oasis album....
