R.I.P. Rick Wright Sad news for Pink Floyd fans: keyboardist, songwriter, and founding member Rick Wright has passed away after what was, according to David Gilmour, "a short struggle with cancer." He was 65.

That is a damn shame. I know he is jamming at the Great Gig in the Sky.

RIP. It's too bad his talents were stifled by Waters towards the end of the band's initial run. He had a hand in writing some of the band's greatest songs.
Now I kind of hope they never do a Floyd reunion. Just wouldn't be the same without Wright's keys.

Oh boy, here we go with the fucking idiots getting ridiculous and sensational about how much the other members of the band contributed. It's sad that he's gone but it doesn't change the fact that Waters was the creative conceptual force behind all of the major records. If all the band churned out was shit like "The Division Bell" for 35 years they'd be no more popular today than Hawkwind.

RIP Rick. Sorry half your career was superseded by drama. It's a lesson for other bands working today, though.

As bad as The Division Bell is, i'd take it over any of Water's post-floyd material.

Huh? Are you talking about me? I said he was stifled by Waters, which is true; he was outright pushed out of the band and relegated to being a touring member. I didn't say Wright was more important than Waters (he wasn't) or that the band was better without Waters (they weren't). There's no doubt Waters was the main creative force, but Wright did have a hand in some of their best songs (Us and Them, Great Gig in the Sky, Shine On...), as composer and musician. I don't see where there's an argument.

^^^^^^ here, here. And guys let leave the who-did-what-on-whatever-album BS alone. I aspire to be as gracefully and powerful as Rick was on the keys someday. RIP.

I can't tell if that was supposed to be insulting to someone or to prepare me for the rest of your comment.
