Robert Smith's Ever-Expanding Circle Of Friends

And you thought Robert's BFFing KoRN was bad enough? Try this one out. Win Butler's hero Joe Simpson told EW that -- in addition to the Neptunes' Chad Hugo, Timbaland, John Legend, and Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley (of Sweet Escape fame) -- his younger meal ticket has found the Cure for her next album:

The bigger shocker? Ashlee's also reportedly collaborating with Robert Smith. Yes, as in the legendary frontman of Alternative Nation icons the Cure.
Smith's other good buddy Pete Wentz denied involvement in the pairing; Robert and Ashlee go waaay back.
When asked by our west-coast counterpart Shirley Halperin, Wentz demurred. ''I doubt I had anything to do with it, 'cause they were friends since she was performing in Chicago [in London last year]. But I definitely only have good things to say about Ash — I think the collaboration could be great!''
Probably not, Pete! Here are pictures of the dumbfounding duo, both after certain "enhancements."

A late April Fools?

If not . . . Robert, Jesus! It's not like I think I know you or feel that you owe me anything for my two decades of fandom, but man. You have a lot of money, why do you keep doing this kind of shit?

the problem with robert smith is that he has absolutely NO standards anymore. he's gone back on everything he wanted the cure to stand for. i'm sick of these self-congratulatory blowjobs that keep happening with anyone who even mentions they like the cure. blink 182, korn, and ashlee simpson for chrissakes?! the cure havent put out a decent album in 14 years, so if this shit happens i swear i will never listen to them again. shouldve broken up years ago...

Look, I'm not going to defend what he's doing (Seriously Robert, are you on something?) but suddenly saying you can't listen to The Cure anymore because he sings with Ashlee Simpson is ridiculous. How does that change the greatness of Disintegration or Pornography?

Is he that broke? I mean I send around the donation can and collect some change...but geeze, Robert Smith this is not the way to do it.

well, y'see... people get old and sometimes they kinda lose touch with youth culture. Robert is old enough to be Ashlee's DAD, so i guess he's entitled to think she's cool and stuff.

i mean, he DID play with Korn and Blink 182 when they were way past their commercial prime, it's not like he has any cred left at this point... or any rep to protect.

he does, however, have quite a bunch of great albums in my opinion. and no matter how cheap he sells himself now, those albums are still there, and they sound as great now as they did twenty years ago.
