Rock Hall Welcomes Metallica And Run D.M.C. Into Its Class Of '09
Adidas and Armani all around: Seminal rap and influential metal outfits Run D.M.C. and Metallica have officially achieved their music-history artifact status, confirmed as inductees in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame's Class of 2009. But the R&R HOF's idea of fun is, once again, taking a pass on the Stooges. It's a year where their induction would have had a certain added sentimentality in light of recent and tragic events, but really every year Iggy et al don't get the nod is infuria.... OH WAIT I almost forgot that who cares about the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame? Boomers? Well then, joining Lars and Rev. Run in the museum this year will be Jeff Beck (that sound is Lefsetz shitting his pants in joy), Little Anthony & the Imperials, and Bobby Womack. Also getting induction props: Wanda Jackson (Early Influencer) along with Bill Black, DJ Fontana, and Spooner Oldham (the latter three in the Sidemen category). There will be a party to celebrate in Cleveland Rock City this April 4, televised via Fuse. And then next year I will again bitch about how Joy Division, the Smiths, Sonic Youth, and the Replacements deserve better while throwing darts from my perch of rhetorical disinterest.

Hey! Another class of inductees with no Tom Waits! Imagine that! Sure, the fact that he's released approximately three (sort of) bad albums in a three decade career doesn't put him on par with the likes of Run DMC or Metallica who haven't done shit worth hearing since before most people reading this were born, but still, I say throw the guy a bone.
