Rumors Of Weezer's Demise Greatly Exaggerated

Posted three days ago at weezer.com, which we don't visit 'cause they broke up, right? Wrong.

...A Public Service Announcement from the weez: We right here!

(except for Pat who's on a family vacation right now)

this PSA has been brought to you by the fine guacamole dip at Scott Shriner's house, co-sponsored by a ring of fine cheese, and a dish of fresh figs from the back yard. Now please, take those "weezer split?" headlines and place them firmly into the "Don't believe the hype" bin. And have yourself a fine afternoon now.

This is where you debate the merits of Pinkerton...

blue album kills pinkerton...i really thought they broke up after pinkerton, because those other albums were so bad.

Okay..the other albums aren't that bad. But the blue album kills any of their others, and about 95% of all other artitsts/bands that ever existed, including Bob Dylan!

To me they broke up after matt sharp left. I can't find the video for the sweater song on youtube (one of the best effin videos ever btw) but it shows how his stage/overall presense surpasses river's in so many ways. Pinkerton is still one of my favorite albums.

Clearly faux-toshopped by the Corporate Media who stage fake shots like this all the time in the Middle East. That round of Gouda with the wedge missing was lifted from the Fidel Castro fakes from last week!!!!

As much as I love Weezer, they really need to stop going back and forth between being best friends and being on the verge of break-up. It's getting old.

blue, pinkerton, green are all good. then scott with his 'i'm totally metal' garbage killed weezer took that shit over the top of please god no mountain to retarded wack attack awful lame bonersville valley. lame-o! turned it into lame schlonck donk predictable guitar chonk. dude, scott, go play real metal and let weezer become good again. also wouldn't hurt to have matt and pat back if rivers would chill on the whole its my band tip.

It died for me with "Maladroit." It was confirmed when I heard "Beverly Hills." From the people who brought you "In The Garage."

Travesty. That and "Dope Nose."

Did Cuomo ever get over his Japanese lady fetish? On the bright side, they're less likely to understand a word he sings.

Wilford, do not blame Scott. The rest of the guys, including Harvard boy, killed this band of its interest long ago.

if by "get over his Japanese lady fetish" you mean "marry a Japanese lady," then yes, he did.

Seems Rivers consciously tries to make the perfect record - and that never works.

Still love =w= anyway

"Seems Rivers consciously tries to make the perfect record - and that never works."

Exactly.. the more pissed Rivers is and the less effort he puts in, the better the album comes out. When they made Make Believe they were obviously trying really really hard to make a "weezer" album but it just ended up sucking. Rivers need to chill out, stop worrying so much, and stop being a fuckin lame ass emo beyotch.

But god i love them so much

yeah speaking of japanese marriages and fake pictures, and being fancily dressed and surrounded by cheese, guac, and crackers...

i suspect this picture wasn't taken at scott's house at all but at rivers' wedding which was almost two months ago, that is unless they wear suits all the time. and by god this news is just getting out now! seems like they had some mulling over to do before going public about not breaking up...

god damnit weezer drop the pro tools, plug the old geetars through some scuzzy amps and make a raw ass record again please

I'm, personally, excited and happy for them. Maybe their last albums weren't so great, but I still enjoy them. And for some reason I now want soem Laffy Taffy, because the names of thier albums make me think of Laffy taffy. Yum.

This may just be someone's way of clinging to hope that Rivers was being overly dramatic...personally I hope it's over. The Green album was mildly disappointing but everything after has been embarassingly bad. Matt Sharp was Lennon to Cuomo's McCartney. I'd put either Rentals album against post-Pinkerton Weezer any day.

How about we take those "weezer split?" headlines and shove it painfully up that little fuck Rivers Cuomo's ass instead.

Tomohisa Yamashita > Rivers Cuomo

I don't know why the official site would "cling to hope" exactly, seems like it's straight from the horse's mouth.
I'm as big a Weezer fan as you could find, and I honestly don't care if they make another record. I'm looking forward to The Rentals record a lot more than the next Weezer record. Matt Sharp seemed to be the only person in the group that actually wanted to push the group further (probably why he left) and the group totally dies with his absence. The rest of the guys couldn't give a shit, seems like it's just a paycheck for them. I can't blame them, they've lost all their spirit over the years thanks to Rivers' shenanigans. They have no stock in whether Weezer succeeds or fails, they're millionares. There was talk of Sharp rejoining the group as another guitar player or keyboardist, but Sharp basically thought about it for 5 minutes then decided to revive The Rentals instead. More power to him, who wants to hop on a sinking ship?

jimm: Yeah, maybe it was taken at Rivers' wedding, if they didn't bother getting Pat in the photo and gave Rivers a new beard. I think it's for real, including the part about Pat being on family vacation; Pat even went on the record on his own website, thespecialgoodness.com (see the blog entry for July 21 2006):

"I can assure you that =w= is fully intact. I know this because I am in Weezer. The glaring proof that today's media is shallow reveals itself in this simple fact: not one person called me to ask my opinion. Which is cool cuz I would have made up some fantastic lie about becoming an Antarctic explorer."

While I admit that their post-Pinkerton output hasn't been as impactful, I would still be bummed out if they split because they're my all-time favorite band, so it's nice to see that they're still together.

matt sharp was the only thing that made weezer good.
and not to be a broken record, but pinkerton is a masterpiece.
and so is seven more minutes by the rentals.

coincidence?

Matt is great, but c'mon with these "he was the only good thing about Weezer" comments because Rivers is awesome, too - he just gets too full of himself sometimes (maybe all the time).

Maybe now that he's knee deep in yellow poontang, he won't take it all so seriously.

Rivers WAS awesome, but he stopped caring somewhere around 2001. Even the Green Album was an interesting because it was laced with this crazy Brian Wilson-ish vibe of "MUST...BE...PERFECT!" But he's done everything in his power to become nothing like he was when he released his best records, and his music has begun sucking because of it.

i still cling on to weezer because of their first two albums...but it's so embarrassing to be a fan when they keep putting out crap...they should stop making albums and tour around with the songs they have...i really love weezer's live shows.
