Ryan Adams Friends With Willie Nelson, Not Stereogum

It's been a month since the Ryan Adams incident and I'm still waiting for him to be my MySpace friend.

What up Ryan? I'm a fan. Can't I be your 30,334th friend?

Anyway, while we await news about those three solo CDs, here's some good news for country fans (via Billboard):

Seventy-three-year-old music icon Willie Nelson collaborates with 31-year-old singer/songwriter Ryan Adams on his new album, Songbird. Due Oct. 31 via Lost Highway, the 11-track set was produced by Adams, whose band the Cardinals back Nelson throughout. Veteran harmonica player Mickey Raphael also appears.

The track list features covers of Gram Parson's "$1000 Wedding," Christine McVie's "Songbird," the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter favorite "Stella Blue" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

In addition, Nelson reworks his own "Rainy Day Blues," "Sad Songs & Waltzes" and "We Don't Run," as well as tackling the traditional "Amazing Grace."

I know, another "Hallejulah" cover. But whatever, it's Willie Nelson!

Oh shit that's perfect!! Willie and Ryan are playing at the Bowl in September. Man it would be great to see them perform the material together!

The most convincing myspace Rya IMO is linked by clicking my name.

As a graphic designer, I know for a fact he has nothing to do with it.

The blog about Rhett Miller cracks me up though.

"Stella Blue"? Great, Willie musta turned Ryan on to the Grateful Dead and so Ryan went out and bought fckin Europe '72--which would explain why he's also now shaming... I mean, covering... "He's Gone" in concert now.

Ryan, stop taking advantage of Willie and the Dead just because they're all too stoned to know better!

he probably tried to accept you but myspace froze, and then he just thought he had accepted you already, so he never went back. that happens sometimes!

Could we all use our witch powers to summon an evil boot to stick in disasterheads' ass?

RA is my friend too.

Dude, he's covering "$1,000 Wedding" - that's worth the price of admission alone!

Ooo...I'm going to that Bowl show in September. I can't wait! Anything with Willie and Ryan together is good by me, hate on me if you want.

Bob, you could cover "He's Gone" with your granny on bongos and it would still be great--because it's already a (universally-acknowledged) great fckin song! Ryan's just plundering. What next? The La's "There She Goes"? Honestly, I'm more surprised he HASN'T covered "Cuts Like A Knife" yet.
