Ryan Adams Is The Shit (He Is Also DJ Reggie And WereWolph)

Well it wouldn't be a month in Stereogum without having an excuse to direct you over to Ryan-Adams.com, but this is a good one; right now on Cardinal Radio, Ry has posted eight albums -- for you to stream, and of course, for you to debate his having posted eight albums for you to stream. We shit you not. This updates and incorporates the 36-song stream he put up a month-and-a-day ago, and now it features song titles and artist pseudonyms!

The Finger-sounding stuff is under the name "The Shit" (This Is Shit is the "album" with the Chuck Norris-introduced songs), "DJ Reggie" is MC Ryan Adams, and "WereWolph" features some seriously indulgent, barely listenable takes on Creed's "Higher" (which itself is barely listenable, so just imagine!) and Bono & The Corrs' "When The Stars Go Blue" (wink). Before you go nuts, just remember: He's not charging you to listen to this stuff! He just has a serious love for the studio and hatred for self-editing. And it just wouldn't be as much fun any other way.

This only further supports the fact that Ryan Adams is a FUCKING G! Thanks Ryan, these will surely be the soundtrack to my Holiday Season, and, if you could buy them, it would make my holiday shopping a lot easier. If only it came in a box-set like Sufjan's Christmas-pack.....

Um...the take on Dylan's "You're A Big Girl Now" on the first DJ Reggie album is oddly good. Man.

"When the Stars Go Blue" was actually written by, umm, Ryan Adams.

Echoing what Mr. Otis said, I hope that was just one of those veiled Stereogum jokes there with the Bono and the Corrs. Right? Please?

ok, maybe this post and these comments were meant to be ironic and i'm not getting it, but you all do know that ryan adams well...um....is a seriously overrated douchebag right?

you do remember his whiny, ridiculous phone message on Jim DeRogatis' after he gave him a bad review right?

you are aware of his ongoing feud with jeff tweedy, who craps better songs out every day than adams ever could ever dream of in his entire career?

you have listened to his albums right??????

ok, just checking.

get a brain gurl! Ryan Adams is BOMB-TIGHT! and hey, he might go down as a whiney, little girl in your book, but you'll go down as one in mine. BAM!

ran into ryan outside a grocer last weekend. i was starstruck. it was embarrassing, but what can I say? I'm a big fan... douchebaggery and all.

oh, snap.

yes, i am a nerd. no debate there. of course we're all taking the time to post comments on a blog, so....figure that one out.

and no, i'm not whining, i just have an opinion. and it is that ryan adams is a hack. more specifically, an uninspired, derivative and whiny hack. i'm just sorry that willie nelson is too high to realize that and decided to collaborate with him. he is the opposite of a hack, in case anyone needs a reference point. wait, that's it!!! maybe if i get really high on some willie nelson grade weed, i'll finally get this ryan adams stuff!!! then it'll sound BOMB-TIGHT!!

i hope i didn't use too many big nerdy words!!

The question, jotoole, is whether or not YOU have listened to his albums. Heartbreaker? Cold Roses? Stranger's Almanac? All good stuff; I think if you'd heard them in their entirety you'd be singing a different tune. Also, I'm not sure who he's overrated by, exactly, as he gets quite a few bad reviews.

Otis ... I think that is why SG put a (wink) after "Stars Go Blue". It was what we in the industry call "a joke".

damn, i am a nerd. why can't i let this go? why does ryan adams bring out the pain in the ass in me?

i feel like i've given him enough of a chance and i'm not gonna drop any cash on any more albums so that i can hear further suckage. and he's not overrated by the critics (who i despise anyway). he's overrated by his fans. by the way, so are creed, yanni and john tesh. and if they love that crapola, then god bless em.' go nuts. i just don't get it.

I've listened to everything the man has put out, several times even, and for my money, it doesn't get any better than his hip-hop number. his records are overlong and sappy, but his rappin is the bizzy bomb!

that's the ryan adams magic: if you're a fan, you'll dig his alt.country sappy and crappy albuns. if you're not, you'll think his a hack. i don't know what makes someone a fan of him or not, probably some genetic stuff.

i say, i got the luck of loving his music and ceirtainly i'm a blind, stupid fan girl. but ohhh it's AMAZING to be a ryan fan. the guy puts eight albuns in his website, come on. i laugh my ass off every time i hear the jim derogatis message, the mechrobioticon or whatever phone call, the raps.. and i get fucking emotional with, for example, meadowlake street. why can't he be a musician (seriously, if love is hell isn't at least a good album, i don't know what's supposed to be) and a laughable crappy prolific musician?

whatever. it's funny how he bothers so many people.

Yes, I've listened to a lot of these songs. Is that sad?

The fact that Ryan's music (like it or not) can create such a stir and extreme views in both directions is proof he is a genius. Take it or leave it - if you are here expressing your view or simply reading other's comments you have to appreciate his gift. He is an true entertainer.

ryan is brillliant and beautiful. he gets what music is and what it means to people - and shares freely of himself. if that makes the jotooles of the world, who think music is some kind of competitive, comparative sport, cranky - then hats off to ryan.

the corporate music machine that creates the jotooles of our time - to spread hatred and their own jealous criticisms around, will continue to ruin the spirit of creativity and music - as long as they can get the jotooles to carry their flag.

i buy all ryan adams cds. in part, because i love the music - and in part because he shares his music, like this.

there are enough primadonna 'musicians' who think they are productive with their talent if they release one ten song album every three years - to allow space for a troubador like ryan adams to breathe this kind of beauty and creativity into our everyday lives.

if you can't get behind a guy who wrote the epic 'cuts like a knife', you are cold, man. (wink).
