Trading Rock Clubs For Golf Clubs

For the first time ever, Golf Digest has put together a highly scientific list of the Top 100 Musican Golfers. You know you wanna know. And it's not as Yacht Rock heavy as you'd expect! Here's a look at your #1:

Did you know that in addition to being the best musician golfer and the world's most irritating sax player, Kenny G is also one of the original ten investors in Starbucks (and set for life on that alone)? Someone explain "retirement" to him. Please.

The rest of the top 5 includes Vince Gill (#2), Marty Roe, Steve Azar, and No Doubt's Adrian Young (#5). It's no surprise that at #44, Snoop Dogg knows his way around the green (ha). And best back-to-back rankings? Bob Dylan at #63, followed by Celine Dion at #62. All that time in Vegas is doing her good! Here's the list:

is k-fed excluded because he's not a very good golfer, or because he's not considered a musician (or both)?
Whatever, give me "popozao" over any kenny g song any day!

I'm pretty sure Sports Illustrated once ran a feature article on Mike Mills as a celebrity amateur golfer. Am I correct or crazy?

I love that Hootie is #15. Just another piece of evidence that he's the modern day Don "No Soul" Simmons.

does Jack Wagner's one song make him "a musician" i've heard many people say he'd probably make the pro tour if he wanted

I think the real question is what two of these celebrities would make the most entertaining pairing.

My vote goes out to Willie Nelson and Snoop. For the obvious reason that they'd be lucky to finish the back nine.

Actually, come to that, they probably wouldn't make it out of the clubhouse.

Hey, John Daly has an album. This list is a travesty of a mockery of two shams.

Yes, Mike Mills was featured in SI, about 10 years ago.

Doesn't Sufjan, Colin Meloy, Ben Folds, and 3/4ths of the DCFC guys also play golf?

Kenny G > your favorite Indie Rock/Pop band. Vince Gill just fucking sucks.

This is the third year they've done this list--so big surprise, everyone hates golf except people who actually play it (or those who are in it for the irony--oh you guys!). It's all based on handicap and handicap is BS. Some of these "musicians" probably only play a few times a year and only break 90 enough to keep it reasonable. The last fifty probably only rarely break 100. Not that anyone cares.

No J Mascis !?!?!

This displays the somewhat predictable correlation between golf and MOR music. Seriously, no one actually expected to find the likes of Mascis/Malkmus/Melloy, as if the readership of Golf Digest would appreciate their significance...

most obvious omission: j. mascis
