Entourage Picks Up The John From Cincy Slack With A Soundtrack
Well, great. Mr. Milch, can we get our summer Sunday nights back? HBO's cancelled John From Cincinnati, which probably was the sensible thing to do. But with so much unresolved and so many hours trying to parse the plot from the "I don't know Butchie instead"s, we're feeling the burn. Anybody make it to the series finalé? Care to explain it? (And according to that CNN article, HBO has "yet to decide the fate of its other summer freshman series, the comedy Flight of the Conchords." Perhaps a marathon is in order.)
Despite the missteps and confusion over at HBO, all is not lost for the once mighty cable network. They still have Entourage which, cartoonish as it can be, is up for a Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy. Still counts for something, right? And like any show in love with its own hip factor, Entourage is getting a soundtrack release, courtesy of Downtown/Atlantic (which would help explain why Cold War Kids and Gnarls are on it; what no Art Brut?). Full tracklist after the jump.
01 "Throw Some D's (Travis Barker Remix)" - Rich Boy
02 "You Know What It Is" - T.I.
03 "Wanna Know" - Obie Trice
04 "Southside" - Common (Feat. Kanye West)
05 "Gone Daddy Gone/I Just Want To Make Love To You" - Gnarls Barkley
06 "Salvador" - Jamie T
07 "I Ain't Hard To Find" - Paul Wall
08 "Alsatian" - White Rose Movement
09 "Weekend Jumpoff" - Kevin Michael (Feat. Saigon)
10 "Hip Hop" - Dead Prez
11 "Jealous" - Flo Rida
12 "Don't Do That" - Saigon
13 "Tell Me In The Morning" - Cold War Kids
14 "Staring At The Sun" - TV On The Radio
Head over to Entourage's MySpace for streams of a lot of the soundtrack's tunes, and be sure to check out the full trailer for Medellin that's streaming on the top right of the page, starring Vincent Chase as Tony Clifton Pablo Escobar.

I'd argue that most people who watched a couple of episodes or more of John from Cincinnati really got into it. It's a shame HBO pulled the plug before the show had a chance to blossom into something truly special. But, then again, they cancel all their best shows too soon, see i.e., Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome, etc.

I'll argue against that, Matt: I watched every single episode, in hopes that I would finally get into it (although I was gradually becoming less interested), and just to see if/how they ever actually explained what was going on. I approve of HBO taking on weirder shows like this (and even Carnivale, which I never got into), but I think I approve of them pulling the plug when they did.

Where are The Honey Brothers?

i really hope they don't cancel flight of the conchords, that show is unique and hilarious

i've got my eye on you

deadwood and rome were outstanding shows. especially deadwood. any show that throws around as many "c*cksuckers" as "hellos" is ok in my book. but we still have the great curb your enthusiasm to look forward to in sept.

My advice for HBO: Start reairing The Wire from episode 1 under a new name and promote the living hell out of it (us fans won't mind, we just want some freaking recognition for the best show ever made)

From what I heard, Rome wasnt cancelled. The show was planned for a two year run to tell the story of the fall to Julius Caesar to the rise of Octavian and death of Mark Antony.
It was a solid show tho.
And Deadwood remains one of my all time favorites.

Sadly, Flight of the Conchords seems destined to be cancelled after this season. It reminds me of Lucky Louie, albeit with a larger fan base. Same sort of sitcom-y style. Those shows just don't seem to click on HBO as well as the "serious" fare seems to.
Speaking of serious, can't wait for the last season of The Wire.

HBO could just show Entourage and the Wire on a continuous loop and I would be happy. The Wire is by far the best show HBO has ever had. As for John from Cincinnati, I tried watching it and was getting in to it but never seemed to get any answers and it didnt look like they were ever going to give me any so cancelling it was probably the right thing to do.

here here - The Wire is better than anything on TV. Deadwood was amazing, JFC was interesting, great writing/performances, but that final episode didn't wrap up the 1st season the way I was hoping, so i'm not as upset as I thought i'd be for HBO getting rid of it.

I'd be in trouble if they ever started showing The Wire continuously, as I would stop sleeping, going to work, or eating anything that required me to leave my tv. I watched those on netflix and I could pound through a 3 episode dvd like it was a 20 minute tivo'd seinfeld episode.

M, i completely agree...
Just started watching the Wire through Netflix and the DVDs that only have 2 episodes on them are so annoying...i plow right through them and then have to wait 2 days for the next disc!

wire indeed the best show ever. when does the m' f'n 4th season come out on DVD?!

Deadwood being canceled was a sad realizing how pathetically slow the human mind can be when most peoples' complaints about the show was that they spoke too fast.
Rome canceled? I don't think so.
Carnival was great and wasn't a show needing a shotgun start from the beginning to understand. Ying/Yang; Good/Bad; it's something which we can all relate.
John from Cincinnati was insanely good and I'm addicted to it, but when will people realize that religion and the thought of a 2nd coming just can't be slammed down on people... Tom Hanks you fool!
Flight of the Conchords can be hit or miss, but the basics of the show are hilarious.
The lesson HBO should take here is that the cost of a good show shouldn't be as high as they think. What's the hell is wrong with 7 days of original programming?
What do you want Bitchy Yost?

Someone once told me they thought Carnivale was really overwritten and underwritten at the same time, and I think the same applies to JFC.
Love me some Milch, tho. Looks like he's doing something else with HBO?

Lucky Louie, "John" & "Flight...deserve to be cancelled. I'll never forgive HBO for cancelling a truly witty, funny & unique show-"The Comeback"

The best thing JFC could've done with that season finale would've been to kill off a bunch of characters. Did anyone need all of those storylines? The doctor, the gangsters, the lawyer, the videographer, Mark Paul Gosselear (whose character's deal I never did figure out). But when it didn't, it meant any second season was just going to start from square one again with a lot of confusion about what John was all about. I really wanted to like the show but in the end I'm not lamenting its demise.

JFC-no uptake. Flight-good, but is it really a *series*? not sure. Wire-watching season1-4 for third time right now thanks to BT. nothing like it.
Have you seen Minor Accomplishments of....on IFC...it's actually very good.

Deadwood wasn't canceled. David Milch stopped making new episodes to do John From Cincinnati. There are going to be 2 made-for-TV movies coming soon to tie up the loose ends.

Flight of the Conchords got picked up for a second season.

That's fucking brilliant if that's true. Conchords is the best comedy show since the original The Office.
