Pela Lands On Veronica Mars

Having the kids of the CW soap stroll in the sand to your tune for two minutes may not pack the unit-pushing punch of soundtracking a McMontage on Grey's Anatomy, but it's a step up from a gig at The Delancey. Take this clip to 1:32 and let it ride for two minutes of beach flirting and lifeguard station banter, set to the Billy's bleeding heart vox on "Lost To The Lonesome."

The Brooklyn band's soul-baring arena rock has been bouncing around the LES for awhile now (last time we saw 'em we ended up with El Madmo), and the band is set to get the old package-and-push treatment this April, which means more TV is more than likely. For now, Pela will make a song from the upcoming release available each week, to stream at their homepage. We rather enjoy the War-era U2 of "Tenement Teeth," but "The Trouble With River Cities" is the best candidate for the inevitable Grey's treatment.

Anytown Graffiti is out 4/24 on Great Society.

Veronica Mars is not a soap, although this specific clip of kids frolicking at the beach might lead people to believe otherwise. They feature a lot of great music.

Agreed. The whole Valentine's Day scavenger hunt subplot in this clip is uncharacteristic of the rest of the show, which functions more as a noir.

The show is known for pretty savvy musical choices, too. Britt Daniel (Spoon) and Courtney Taylor-Taylor (Dandy Warhols) both had karaoke cameos last season and the official soundtrack has songs from Tegan and Sara, Mike Doughty and Ivy, to namedrop a few.

Former brooklynite Todd Deatherage also had a song featured in this episode, in the scene where the scavenger hunt begins. The song is "Undone." I didn't know this show had such good taste in music!

Veronica Mars isn't a soap anymore than Supernatural is a 'soap'. I believe it was once described as 'Chinatown' meets 'Heathers'. Great actors, great writing, wit, humor, intelligence, sarcasm? The only 'soapy' thing about it is the fact that it's got an attractive cast.

Excuse me, but I take offense to the fact that you'd rather be featured on the mother of all soap-opera disguised-as-a-doctor-show programming than on an intelligent and witty (though, perhaps this clip is not the best examples to showcase it's noir qualities) drama. I'd consider Grey's Anatomy far more "soapy". I understand the obvious appeal of the significantly higher ratings that show attains, but please.. Veronica Mars? a soap? Yeah, no..

In its first and best season, Veronica Mars was compelling television and definitely not a soap. Now? Two seasons and one coma baby later? I'd call it a soap.

I disagree. There were soapy elements in Season 1, and two seasons later, still romance, but that isn't the heart of the show and no doubt whatsoever, Veronica Mars is not a soap.
