Sigur Rós, Not MGMT Remix Depeche Mode

thumbnail icon: Sigur Rós, Not MGMT Remix Depeche Mode

It's unclear if Depeche Mode made the shift because they realized they were "Wrong" to mix and match songs on a single or because they wanted to replace psychedelic college rock with something more befitting "Peace." What we do know is that instead of MGMT's "Fragile Tension" backing the Sound Of The Universe soul searcher as was the initial plan, folks who purchase the "Peace" single on CD now get the "Peace (SixToes Remix)" by baroque London folkies SixToes. More interesting to Sigur Rós fans? Frontman Jónsi Birgisson's "Come Back (Jónsi Remix)" supports "Peace" on the 7" version. (There's also an extended CD that includes remixes by Hervé, Sander Van Doorn, Justus Köhncke, etc., because you can never remix a song too many times.) Listen to Jonsi's take at Boomkat, though the track's interrupted every 30 seconds to remind you that you don't own it. All versions of the "Peace" single are out via Mute, but reportedly won't see release in the US.

What a disappointing bore. But then again Sigur Ros are not what I'd call remixers. If they gave the Mode a full Sigur treatment it would be something great.

What's with the stupid audio bleep every 30 secs? It's just a lo-fi streaming edited preview clip for goodness sake. Are record companies becoming so narcy they're gonna butcher everything we hear? God, next you know FM radio stations will be required to put audible interruptions in songs when they play them so that people with tape recorders don't illegally "download" (what we used to call "record") them. Bloody ridiculous.
