Sleater-Kinney Break Up?!

Via PortlandMercury:

"After eleven years as a band, Sleater-Kinney have decided to go on indefinite hiatus.

The upcoming summer shows will be our last. As of now, there are no plans for future tours or recordings. We feel lucky to have had the support of many wonderful people over the years. We want to thank everyone who has worked with us, written kind words about us, performed with us, and inspired us.

But mostly we want to extend our gratitude to our amazing fans. You have been a part of our story from the beginning. We could not have made our music without your enthusiasm, passion, and loyalty. It is you who have made the entire journey worthwhile."

Now you really have a reason to go to Lollapalooza.

This is bad news. S-K are a great band who has made amazing records and always puts on a tremendous live show. I'm glad I got tickets to the August show at Webster since it looks like it will be their last performance in NYC.

Yeah, not a S-K fan either. But I've have always wondered if anyone else thinks that woman over there in the "more cowbell" shirt looks like a female Predator.

Please, Sleater-Kinney was one of the last great rock bands we had, and considering so much bullshit trendy indie-pop gets considerably more coverage, it's a fucking shame S-K wasn't more embraced in the "indie rock" community. Tell me with a straight-face that Dig Me Out, All Hands On The Bad One, One Beat, or The Woods aren't superb records.

R.I.P. Sleater-Kinney

Until The Woods, Sleater-Kinney did nothing that spectacular, but I was hoping that they would start rocking more albums such as The Woods. I'm not heartbroken, but I feel they were finally getting a hold of their own sound.

"Dig Me Out" was one of the best albums of the 90s. Sleater-Kinney is an awesome band. Its too bad.

I'm sure alec and Ian! are just douche-bags and probably chauvinistic assholes.

These ladies rocked harder and better than many of their male-indie rock peers.

This is really sad news. I blame it on the great ongoing tofurkey vs. soyrizo debate. Any idiot can see the answer is soyrizo of course but that changes nothing.

I saw them at Coachella. A friend asked me what I thought of their set and the first word that came to mind was "crushing". The come off so great live.....

I seriously think they had figured out how to channel Tony Iommi & Bill Ward during their last extended 20 minute jam.

I love how, whenever Scott announces the breakup of a band, there's a stampede of jerks rushing to say, "Good riddance; they sucked," and "Who cares? I never liked them," and "Anyone who cares about this band is a Republican with mouth herpes," and other various forms of grave-dancing.

Just further proof that people are assholes.

To all the fucknuts and straight up jackasses of the "free world". Go fuck yourselves! Alec, Ian, Yo momma, and the other jackoffs who feel Sleater-Kinney wasn't a major contirbutor to what's right in the small amounts of people who care in the world today! Together the whole lot of you don't make up enough brain matter to take a dump, your opinions aren't enough collectively to waste space! Instead of thinking what the radio, and TV tell you to (You pieces of shit) Maybe you should think about what the world needs, or how people should be. This band made no apologies or wimpered in the faces of so many critics when their sound came across as off, or to brusque. They have always been stead fast in their beliefs and their sound! Even when sons of bitches band wagoners hopped on for a "OH they sound so cool" ride from rolling stone and other mindless cunt faces like yourselves, they never gave into money and sold themselves, or pimped their sound to make a buck!!!!!!!! They are true musicians! True humanitarians! True role-models!!! So you all can go and fuck your mothers some more, while you listen to your adolescent, kinder garten, caca, poo-poo, wee-wee bull shit!!! Think before you speak mother fuckers!!!!!

Love them or hate them, SK made a special noise, a unique sound of their own, weaving a blend of angst and energy into a music a whole generation craved. I find thats a quality lacking in so many wantabe bands today. Knock them if you must, but SK will out live their critics.

Wow, amazing how many people were into SK. They were sooo horrible, Corin Tucker and those other girls could really use some vocal lessons. Kinda reminded me of a cat giving birth. Just another band that gave music a bad name.
