Smashing Pumpkins Sue Virgin Over "Pepsi Stuff" Campaign

thumbnail: Smashing Pumpkins Sue Virgin Over "Pepsi Stuff" Campaign

According to the AP wire, "the Smashing Pumpkins are suing Virgin Records, saying the record label has illegally used their name and music in promotional deals [with Pepsi and Amazon.com] that hurt the band's credibility with fans." No, Billy, your shitty new songs hurt your credibility with fans. And your whining. And schilling smashed guitars. In the end, guess it doesn't matter much since the Pumpkins maybe will/won't be making records, maybe.

When exactly did the Smashing Pumpkins have a good and collective level of credibility anyway?

So let me get this straight. Billy isn't ok with his song being used in a Pepsi ad but hes ok with his song being featured in a car commercial? Oh wait, hes getting paid for the car commercial...

Ah, Stereogum picking on Billy Corgan once again...he's such an easy target, it must be irresistible. Now you're criticizing him for (gasp!) wanting to have a say in how his music is used? Bravo!

You and the other stupid fucks talking shit (Including the person making the original post) have probably never even listened to a pumpkins albumn all the way through. It's excelent music. So piss off.

if he does make any money off this, hopefully he'll use it it to go into retirement.

Do bands this big ever have a credibility problem? Billy could shill Agent Orange for Dow and they'd still have a humungous fanbase ponying up to see them internationally and buying every $100 hoodie.

or maybe he's upset because he wanted a certain version of the commercial only viewable by directv users, and then another version only available to cable viewers, and then a plain, bland version for the folks that only have regular TV.

And what, pray tell, is wrong with him wanting his money? Anyway, his claim is that Virgin only has the right to sell his music digitally, not set up big promotional deals. Also, that last album was awful. And I heard the solo album was bad too. Zwan was pretty weak. The Machinae only had a few good songs. Everything before that, though, was really good!

Homies' got a mortgage too and it ain't like he's selling any albums. I saw the Pumpkins yeeeaaars ago at a Lollopalooza and they were good but towards the end of the set he got angry at something or another and ranted about ??? for a good 20 minutes...then they ended with Today which they at least rocked. He's an angry guy I think.

We all know Billy is an asshole, but what worries me is the quality of their current shows. Since I'm going a long way to a festival where the pumpkins are playing.
