Do we even know if James is back in the band or not?

i'm a smashing pumpkins fan, i think they are one of the few bands who defined the '90s, but it makes me cringe a little to read here that they've resorted to their myspace page for their concert announcements.

It's Smashing Punpkins the same way the Axl Rose band is Guns & Roses.

Requests? ANYTHING. "1979" and "Mayonnaise" would particularly hit it home.

So far the only confirmed members are jimmmy and billy, I guess we'll find out in june, hopefully sooner, if this is the real smashing pumpkins or zwan 2.

A 40-minute version of "Drown" would be nice.

And now I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille!

Hello? Goldenvoice? Grant Park? Perry? Anyone?

the ideal setlist should draw only from when Billy had hair.

Lord people are stupid. At this point if you don't know that the Smashing Pumpkins were ALL Billy Corgan, then don't even bother listening to any of their stuff.

People actually amuse themselves with the thought the James or Darcy had anything to do behind their sound.

Nobody cared when Darcy was kicked out, or when Jimmy left. It's ALL Billy Corgan.

Zwan was far from that, Zwan was 5 Amazing artists.

And as for myspace, name me one band that isn't using it to promote new material????

It may be true that the Pumpkins are all Corgan, but he hasn't released anything good (with a band or solo) since the original lineup. But consider that the last album released with the orginal lineup was Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness and compare that to the last two Pumpkins albums, Zwan, and his solo album. The music made with the original lineup is 100 times better than anything else he's done. It would be ideal for the original lineup to be back together.

Daniel, you must be an idiot if you think the Pumpkin's were all Corgan. Sure, D'Arcy may not have had a great deal of input but Iha was VERY much an influential member of that band. And I guarantee you this poorly conceived CORGAN INC version of the Pumpkins will suck, horribly horribly suck. And are you SERIOUSLY name-checking Zwan? Come on.

We all know Corgan's got some talent but his assholish tendancies ruin anything he's involved in.

Daniel is right. Iha and D'arcy DIDN'T EVEN PLAY ON GISH OR SIAMESE DREAM. Billy would go back into the studio after hours and rerecord their parts. This is common knowledge.

Also, Adore and Machina are criminally underrated. For that matter, Zwan too, especially if you ever got to see them live. Yeah, Corgan's solo album was terrible, I'll give you that. But everything else has pretty much been solid.

If you mean by making Machina & performing in Zwan that Corgan should be criminally prosecuted, then yes. Yes, you are correct.

Also, even if his claim that he rerecorded everything is true (Corgan notoriously overstates his importance) even the mighty BC can't play every instrument live. As someone who has seen the Pumpkins live (original lineup) I can tell you that Iha most definitely contributed to the dynamic of that band.

the smashing pumpkins were not ALL billy. just 90%. the rest is jimmy killing it behind the kit. he's amazing, too.

Yeah, the Pumpkins were mostly Corgan, and the Police were mostly Sting, but for whatever reasons, they both mostly sucked outside those groups.

At least a possible Police reunion will actually be the original members, so it should be good--they sounded good at their Hall of Fame induction.
