Some Coldplay News
The mystery of the X&Y album cover has been solved. (Link via Laura.)

In more exciting Coldplay news you can now buy "Speed Of Sound" for your iPod here or your Cingular phone here.
Calculate the speed of sound in your neck of the woods with this krafty formula: Cair = (331.5 + 0.6 Θ) m/s where Θ is today's temperature, Celsius stizz.
Seriously, though -- whatcha think of the song? (Do that yousendit jazz in the comments if you want.)

I am very pleased with the new Coldplay album and I will say that it's easy for Coldplay to sound like they're ripping themselves off. It doesn't make me like them less, and I do like "Speed of Sound". Fans will get it, non-fans might get a little pissy.

Today in Chicago, the speed of sound is 345.294 m/s (slower near the lake).

agreed, much better than Talk. great track.

I personally like "Talk" better, but that song grew on me over time. "Talk" happens to be one of my most listened-to songs of 2005 thus far.
I think Speed of Sound is great though. I cannot WAIT for this album to come out, as both the live version of the new tracks and the studio versions are wonderful.

Does anyone understand the PURPOSE of this cover mystery? That explaination was about as easy to understand as quantum physics.

Personally, I don't get the purpose of it Chris? What's it all about?

I don't know, I'm asking!

the new coldplay song sounds exactly like the old coldplay song. the purpose of the album art mystery is to get the story picked up all over the web and thus promote the album.

well i dont have the new coldplay songs , but i have the link for the new oasis album dont believe the truth , there's this song called mucky fingers , sounds very like velvet underground - waiting for my man . just brilliant

If you kids want to sink your teeth into a proper English band with genuine swagger keep your eyes and ears out for The Tears whose album is ready to drop in June and single, Refugees, on April 25th via import of course.
Sorry just a little grassroots promotion

Chris, my guess is it was just suppossed to be a little guessing game but it got blown up through the power of the internet instant hype machine and now everybody is going to be disappointed that the answer isn't very exciting, then the haters start to swarm and use the opportunity to bash the band.

Cockgobblers.
Yeah, I've had Talk for weeks.
Still can't get the other one.

Here's Speed of Sound again:

Between the two I think "Talk" is the better song, but neither really blows me away. Coldplay's kind of like easy-listening Indie music, in my opinion. It's not bad by any means, but it doesn't shake you up like reading Vice Magazine does.

this one DEFINITELY works:

easy listening is right. i like "talk" because it at least has a *little* edge. i really enjoyed the last two albums, though i never liked "clocks" which seemed to be the most popular song off the last album (a grammy for clocks? wtf?).
not sure if i'll even buy this album...but good for them though, they seem to be nearing that U2 stage where the masses will like anything they record. better than listening to whatever maroon 5 or U2 single is currently popular.

Coldplay is the biggest scam since sliced bread or since U2 making the same album 5 times in a row some years ago. Their sound is way too redundant makes me fall asleep.

"easy listening is right. i like "talk" because it at least has a *little* edge."
Wait, the Edge plays on their new album? Stereogum Exclusive! Personally I like the new one better -- not that I dislike "Talk", but there was something about the recording of "Talk" that I had that sounded... incomplete, to me.
I guess we'll see. They do what they do, but they do what they do pretty freakin' well...
Score = 0
The version of "Talk" that was leaked was incomplete. Accoring to an article with NME, "Talk" was finished last (and very recently) as the band felt it was incomplete as well.
I personally think it's one of Coldplay's best tracks to date.

i way preferred my interpretation of the coldplay cover. math sucks.

That whole descending riff on the piano thing is good for one album only. Their first album didn't really do it as much, the second album did it for about every song except for "In My Place".
It sounds like they haven't really grown that much and for a band like this who clearly is desperate to be the new U2, that's not a good thing. Don't stick with what you did when what you did was pretty typical songwriting in general (ie- simple yet frustrating drums, falsetto vocals, clangy guitars, etc.)
And I'm a fan- I still think that "In My Place" is one of the most perfectly written songs in the history of music, but Jesus its like a different band wrote it when I listen to this boring dribble.

Someone e-mail me "Speed of Sound" please.

Did anyone else notice the NME cover? It says "Chris Martin:'This should definately be our last album.'"
WTF I hope this isn't true!

I hope it is true.

That quote was taken out of context for sure.

Yeah, none of the links are working for me...if some kind sould out there is nice enought to email me either of those songs, that kind soul has a new worshipper. I'm a huge Coldplay fan, I do agree that it is easy listening, but it's not like that "chill" crap. I think all of their songs are beautiful, none that I don't like. I'm sure there's someone else out there who agrees "beautiful" is the right adjective for Coldplay. But, yeah, if anyone can email either of the new songs to me, or give me A LINK THAT WORKS! The longer I live without this music the more crazy I go. So please?
