South By Speculation

As things start to rev up after the holiday lull, we can't help but think about that annual trek to Austin for indie rock spring break -- and begin trolling for confirmations for the music festival's slate of performers. Best we've got so far is a list of "Music Festival Highlights" that the SXSW folks have made available in their January update (pdf via P4K). Here's the "subject to change" list of "highlights":

  • The Stooges
  • Interpol
  • Lily Allen
  • Bloc Party
  • Devin The Dude
  • Hoodoo Gurus
  • Matt & Kim
  • Ghostland Observatory
  • The Watson Twins
  • Stax 50th Anniversary Soul Review
  • Ozomatli
  • Turbanegro
  • Cold War Kids
  • And Pitchfork reports that Under Byen is confirmed as well, which makes 14 down, 1400 to go! So which one of you in-the-know scenesters can help fill in our unofficial list of rampant speculation? Got a wish list? Or does SXSW leave you feeling like it's just a big industry circle jerk with bands you've already seen (and really, who can subsist on BBQ and margs three meals a day for five days)?
