Spinto Band Get MSNBC Love

"I can just feel my spidey-sense tingling that this is one of those bands that’s going to blow up — and huge."

You can stream blogga-fave "Oh Mandy" and two other tunes there. I enjoyed Spinto Band at the Stolen Transmission showcase, but I only saw a few numbers. Haven't heard the whole album yet -- is it worth buying?

The album is actually quite good all the way through. No real letdowns on any of the songs. A very underrated band.

Did I miss the memo last year? Did this guy and Alex O. from Clap Your Hands Say, Hell No randomly decide that combining the vocal styles of Gordon Gano/Thom Yorke/David Byre over poppy music would be a brilliant idea?
The songs on their webpage are pretty decent, but his voice is driving me over the edge.

it's worth it.even if you don't like the byrne thing the tracks by the other singer are worth the whole cd.

I saw them open for Head of Femur a few weeks ago at Spaceland in Silverlake. They easily stole the show.

me gusto mucho.

it's pretty solid all the way through, and they show diversity in their songwriting.

...a major plus in my book.

Who knew that MSNBC was at all worthwhile?

Yes -- "Nice and Nicely Done" is one of the year's best discs. The guys are a lot of fun live and some of the nicest folks I've met in this crazy biz.

Hey Washington-Baltimore people:

It looks like the Pixies just announced a show in Baltimore for this Friday. Tickets just went on sale today. It's a small venue (as I remember). Wish I could go. Have fun.

The BadmintonStamps team showed some Spinto love a while back on our blog. It's no MSNBC, I'll grant you, but we hold our own. You can download "Oh Mandy" right here:

someone needs to fire paige for one of the worst music articles i've read in a long, long time.

'These guys are buzzed on playing music and is it ever contagious.'

'With six members onstage, there’s a lot going on here.'

...i think she'd pass out if she saw the polyphonic spree.

Spinto's definitely a safe bet for MSNBC--they sound like a less-spazzy Hot Hot Heat, with the hip "collective" visual appeal of Polyphonic Spree, BSS, etc.

I do dig the kazoos on "Brown Boxes."

Just saw them open for Head of Femur in Seattle, where they also stole the show from HoF.

I love Nice and Nicely Done.

At the show in Seattle they were hanging about outside the Theatre and my friends and I chatted them up for a good hour. I love finding out that musicians/bands I enjoy are really laid back down to earth folks. Not like Ryan Adams. Crapchrist.

It's great to see them getting such press, even pitchfork seemed to have nothing but good things to say, which is entirely too rare over there...

yeah, Nice and Nicely Done will be one of your favorite CDs this year. It will supplant Sufjan...ok, maybe not, but Spinto's competing handily with Sufjan in my CD rotations race.

i read about them in last month's (?) issue of spin and the write-up caught my attention.

i'm liking what i'm hearing and i really need something new to listen to. plus, anyone who covers a barry manilow song so well gets my vote.

i'm supporting their efforts and just ordered the cd.

the author, paige, is probably diggin' the linkage. or at least msnbc is.

Okay, I just came home five minutes ago from seeing them live at Silk City Lounge. Easily the best local band I've seen here in Philly. Better than Dr. Dog. Better than Marah. Easily. I was interested in Spinto Band before, but I now throw my full support behind them. They've definitely got their shit together musically.

I'll pay money to see them again.

I apologize internetly here on stereogum.

I thought "Oh Mandy" was the same as "Mandy"/B. Manilow...but now that I have the CD in hand, I know it vastly is not.

I think this track is my fave off the CD.

Loving Spinto Madly...
