Stereogum Does CMJ: Land Of Talk @ Gothamist House
Conducting reconnaissance on the new and the obscure is for what we live, but CMJ presents plenty of opportunities to check in with some of our favorites -- and for us, this meant stalking Band To Watch Land Of Talk around the city yesterday. Still, their set at the Gothamist House was the only time we actually saw them perform (thank Albert Hammond, Jr. for making Mercury a clusterfuck last night). The Talk slowed down their songs to accommodate the chill-out room (and Bucky's lack of bass drum) and closed with "It's Okay," one of Lizzie's old, pre-Applause Cheer Boo Hiss tunes; we instantly fell for the song's simple and sweet chord movement and melody, and hope to see it on the full-length we're promised next year (we couldn't be more psyched!). If you don't have Applause, you're missing out. Grab these tracks, download another at MySpace, and then buy the EP here.
Land Of Talk - "Seafoam" (MP3)
Land Of Talk - "Breaxxbaxx" (MP3)

Our friends at Gothamist have a nice thing going at their space (nice work, Jen and Jeff!), so if you have some time today and didn't get a golden ticket for our pahtay at Northsix, we suggest you swing by The White Rabbit from 2:15-7:30PM for the likes of The Kingdom; Loney, Dear; Cities; and an acoustic set from The Wrens' Charles Bissell (!).
And for even more daytime diversions, check out the killer (as always) lineup at the Brooklyn Vegan day party at The Annex (12-4:30PM): Takka Takka, White Whale, Annuals, Elvis Perkins, Tokyo Police Club, The Big Sleep, and Silversun Pickups. Talk about buzz! Both shows are free for all, so make your Saturday matter and get down there.

People keep hoping that someone will finally give up and do it...

I was at the Mercury Lounge "clusterfuck" Friday night. I was there for the band before Land of Talk and was able to go all the way to the front of the stage. That was a stellar lineup...Land of Talk, Cloud Cult, Tokyo Police Club, Albert Hammond, (and Longwave, which I was too tired to check out).
