Stereogum March Jukebox

As much as I enjoy posting embarrassing photos of TRL stars, Stereogum is supposed to be about good new music too. So here's what's rocking the iPod this month.

1. I've said it before: Adam Green, genius or retarded? Imagine Ben Kweller with Wernicke's aphasia -- that's what this album sounds like. The lyrics are so intentionally oblique ("Dostoevsky, Fab Moretti / Antiseptic, complimentary..."), it's actually obnoxious. But catchy. And he does a mean "Kokomo."

2. Recommended if you like Apples In Stereo and Of Montreal. Album in stores 4/12.

3. Props to the Guero marketing team. Between those "leaked" rough cuts and the random remixes hopping the blog circuit, I have no idea what to expect on the album. Here's a great article about how 8-Bit got involved.

4. Just discovered these guys. Like all new bands worth blogging about, they're from Canada. This song's got an alt-country Modest Mousey vibe. Lemme know what you think of it. Blood Meridian - "Oh Oh Oh"

5. I tabbed this if anyone's interested.

6. Rumor has it this Kraftwerk-inspired jawn is only a B-Side. X&Y (out 6/7) is gonna be THAT good.

7. Sam's somber Lips cover is the highlight of the excellent new KCRW comp.

8. LOVE the intro. So '80s. Get this one from Fluxblog.

9. Get this one from Catbirdseat's March mix.

10. YEAH!

Part II later...

i've been a fan of adam's ever since i heard the moldy peaches years ago. his solo albums are awesome. "friends of mine" was definitely underrated. "gemstones" is growing on me. love his deep voice.

Waiting for the Sirens Call should have been the first single.

That modest Mouse cover is the best argument for abortion I've ever heard.

I'm honored that at least three of the songs rockin' your iPod have been offered by the site I write for. That Mary Timony album is amazing. Wait till you hear the whole thing -- never been so good.

Matt Camarind, the soft-spoken gentleman behind Blood Meridian, used to be in the Black Halos and Ottawa hardcore band 30 Second Motion Picture. He currently plays in shit-hot psych band Black Mountain, which you should check out, if you haven't already!

Listening to music you can buy in stores is so 2002!

Scott's already tired of "Gimme Fiction" I see -- and that piece ain't even out 'til May! That's gotta be a new record.

FWIW, Coldplay is playing a not-so-secret show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood tonight:

World around the campfire is that people were waiting in line as early as 7:00 AM!

big props for listing Kevin Tihista! I was living in Chicago when his first and second albums (both very good) came out and got to see him perform several times. he's probably one of the best songwriters the general public's never heard of. unfortunately, he's also not too concerned with self-promotion, so his level of fame (or lack thereof) will probably stay about the same no matter what.

it KILLS me that Kokomo is often people's favorite Beach Boys songs and is at the top of any p2p search results.... Mike Love sucks.

I just made a mixed CD, and "Itch U Can't Skratch" was definitely the crown jewel. M83 snuck up on me, but its rockin' as well.

I'll give someone my firstborn child if they can point me to a download of Kings of Convenience' cover of Waitin' for a Superman. No, seriously, his name is Jake, he's yours.

So the new Coldplay will be THAT good. I saw them at the KCRW Sounds Eclectic Evening this weekend and the new songs are amazing. I can't wait to hear the studio versions to get more listens in, but from a first impression they've upped the ante again on this new album.

P.S. - "Talk" is a B-Side to the single "Speed Of Sound"
