Stereogum's 2008 Album Forecast

Anyway, 2008's shaping up to be a little different, and not just in terms of our collective OiNKlessness. As of now, the year doesn't have nearly the same blockbuster appeal (no new Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Shins, Bloc Party, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, et al to get everyone frothy -- oh, but did you hear there is a new Radiohead album in stores on January 1st!). Still, there's plenty of promise there if you look for it. We've already seen some bright spots, and haven't got around to blogging about some others (the new Beach House and Pattern Is Movement are on heavy rotation) ... and we wanted to make next year nice and easy on you. So after lots of research about the year ahead, we've learned a few things: there's a new Animal Collective EP out this April, Menomena's promising another full-length for '08, and when you're making a list as big as the one after the jump, your best friends go by the names Cut and Paste.

And after all that, we're sure we missed something. (Don't say Chinese Democracy; we left that off the list out of respect to you, out of respect for us, and out of respect for the concept and integrity of the act of listmaking in general). We're figuring you'll tell us anyway, so we won't even ask. Instead: let's put this thread to some concerted, declarative use, and make it a call to "what we're most psyched for in '08." And ... go.

I wouldn't hold your breath on another Blur album. It sounds like relations amongst the band have decayed yet again, with Albarn going so far as to insist that the only reason Graham wants back in the band now is because his solo career is faltering and he wants the money. This has caused a rift between Damon and the other three, and it seems less and less likely they will work together again, but certainly not in the near future.

Please add This Will Destroy You to the list. Their S/T LP comes out 1/29 but you can order it now and you'll get it before the street date. This album is fucking amazing...I think these guys are gonna become a little more recognized this year.
