Stereogum's 50 Most Discussed Posts Of 2008

It seems like only yesterday we were prematurely evaluating Black Mountain's latest, but the thousands of posts in our database since then suggest otherwise. In fact it's been a whole year, and a pretty good one what with launching Videogum and electing Obama. Those were the two things that everyone is most thankful for this year.
It's our job to post MP3s and indie rock wedding announcements. But when you share your opinions here, you do it out of love. Specifically, the love of anonymously calling someone a douchebag. Blogging about the new King of Leon video would be no fun without you guys calling us douchebags.
So we crunched the numbers and came up with this list of the 50 most commented Stereogum stories from 2008, covering controversial topics like Joe Satriani, Frances Bean Cobain's trust fund, the new Third Eye Blind song, and Third Eye Blind's response to our post about the new Third Eye Blind song.

this is the worst list.

..just when i thought i'd ridden my brain of "Non-Dairy Creamer"

You guys should have an award for the biggest douchebag posting on Stereogum in 2008. Winner is the person with the most negative votes on a single post. I had like -80 one time in a Kanye West thread so I think I might be a contender.
Score = -24
i think i had -120 once. can't remember the thread, but i think i said "fuck stereogum and douchey indie rock. oh, and GOBAMA." nobody seemed to like that at the time.
who's laughing now, fuckers! hahahah!
Score = -4
The reason Stereogum works so well is because of the community we have. You don't always agree but it makes the posts that much more interesting.
Score = -10
Apparently the community dislikes cheesiness.
Score = 1
I would have had "New Kelly Clarkson" above "Pastes 17 Coolest Record Stores"
Score = -2
i second the douchebag poster award

Sir Lord Von Raven

So...if we make this the most discussed post about the most discussed posts then does that mean we're going to eventually fall into a meta wormhole?
Score = 3
Never did I think when I sent Stereogum the tip about the Third Eye Blind song that it would end up as the #2 most talked about story all year. I am honored.

can you please post the highest and lowest scored comments next?

OK, tomorrow!

how about 'most different names used for posts from the same IP address'? i'd win that hands down, since i'm shady.
Score = -1
LOL
I think I might win. I make up a new name every time I post

I reminded of the new Michael Jackson & Akon song post that gave us the blessed and frightening bon mots of Wintersox. (Shit, he's going to show up after googling his name, isn't he?) Well consider that arrival my belated x-mas gift to the Stereogum faithful. You're welcome?

Ughhh, doesn't anyone respect his art? The best one was where he made a poem about Elvis and Robert Pollard.

The Deschagibbard post before this is already at 82 comments.

That's really sad that that dairy creamer thing was #2 ... some scientist should explain it.
Score = -1
probably wouldn't have been #2 if their fans hadn't seen the stories and unleashed a comment board blitzkrieg in support of the song. 90% of the comments on there are spam. it probably should be disqualified.
Score = -1
I like how the first 10 or 12 comments are negatively voted.
anyway, same thing about the meatloaf post. the actor's fanclub started spamming it. "you guys, he's such a good actor! go adam!"
Score = -1
Oh my god, that Meatloaf thing! I'd never seen that! The internet should collectively apologize for that shit!
I love that that kid from the commercial responds so quickly. Like, he obviously googles his name every day. And then a thousand people show up to defend him, all of them sounding bizarrely fake.
And it was over a stupid commercial! Starring Meatloaf! Can we unplug the internet and reboot it or something?

Please tell me that you'll be live blogging the Grammy's again this year. My side hurt from laughing.

quality hipster blog banter, thy name is Stereogum. Nary a snarky comment passes that I don't thank my skinny jeans for the polarized post-squatters that flock to their screens at the mention of any kind of opinion about anything.
And for you joe six-packs out there reading this from home, "Douchebag" ;) *pop* *chuggg*
