I recently got an accidental emo cut, sort of. I went, for the first time in my entire life, to a fancy salon. It was the first time I payed more than ten bucks for a haircut. Well, what I didn't know was that at the expensive salon, the hairdressers spend lots of money going to special schools and seminars and stuff to learn the latest, greatest hairddoos. Before I knew it, I had me a pretty emo-looking cut, which freaked me out a little, because I refuse to wear anything that resembles a uniform, even if that thing is a hairstyle.
If I let my hair hang down all the way, I'd look like I should be getting reviewed on Pitchfork. Fortunately, my hair gets annoying, so I keep it tucked behind my ears. It looks slightly girly, but it's better than feeling like a geek (I may look geeky anyway, but I don't feel as geeky).
General trends are expected and kinda cool, like, say, tighter jeans or longer or shorter hair. Ultraspecific ones like certain haircuts, or especially brand-related trends, are lame.

I'm a metalhead, old school at that. I have long hair, that I take care of. For one, those Emo haircuts are not "long" hair. Have hair past the bottom of your shoulder blades, that's long hair.
Fact 1: Emo music is horrible and contains no talent.
Compare it to metal, bands like Shadow's Fall, Unearth, Lamb of God, etc. Metal takes true skill and near-mastery of your intrument to play correctly. Emo music takes knowing 3 chords, maybe 4 if they are showing off for their genre. Emo music is just flat out talentless.
Fact 2: Wearing tight pants and having a flock of seagulls hairdo makes you look gay. No one gives a shit if you are gay, but it's just a fact, you look gay dressed like that.

The usual arguement to this is 'blah blah blah theyr'e just showing off you don't to play technical stuff' but the bottom line is, metal bands can easily play anything an emo band plays, but they choose not too because they'll die of boredom.
