Stream Metric's Fantasies

thubmnail icon: Stream Metric's Fantasies

A few months ago we posted Metric's Breeders-esque "Help I'm Alive" (see "Divine Hammer") and mentioned that it appeared to be the lead single from the new then-untitled followup to 2005's Live It Out. Perfectly true. A little later we discovered that the new collection would be called Fantasies. More important that that: This is what the whole thing sounds like from start ("Help...") to finish ("Stadium Love"). No wheels were reinvented during the making of this album, but Metric fans should be plenty pleased.

Fantasies is out 4/14 via Arts & Crafts in Mexico, Last Gang in Canada, and by Metric themselves in the States. You can get more info about pre-orders and the various Fantasies bundles at the band's website

if we don't pay attention, maybe this totally awful band will go away....

You sound a lot smarter when you are not talking.

I've got to say i'm slighty disappointment.I knew they wouldn't stray to far from formula,it's a good collection of songs but i was hoping for something more memorable.

Emily Haines is hot.

They've been sampling/changing up a lot of these songs since "Live It Out" in 05. Unfortunately, even as a big Metric fan, I'm disappointed. There were a lot of songs they tested out live that sounded so much better than the stuff on this Myspace stream.

If anyone of you got a chance to hear the song "Freddie/Black Sheep" or the original "Gimme Me Sympathy" you'd agree. The titles may be the same, it's just that now the songs are far different than those original badass cuts.

the other stuff teasing this album had me thinking this was going to be more like Knives Don't Have Your Back, which i thoroughly enjoyed. it's not bad from what i have listened to thusfar but i'm a little underwhelmed.

basically, im with mozzer27

I completely agree, Knives Don't Have Your Back was stunning and I wished Emily would infuse more piano, soft songs into Metric. But I guess that's not really what Metric's for.

Have you heard anything from the performance in NY? All acoustic versions of Fantasies. The acoustic "Gold Guns Girls" reminds me of Haines' solo stuff.

Some songs are stinkers (Front Row, ugh), but others are some of the best they've ever done (Gold Guns Girls, Gimme Sympathy, Collect Call).

I miss Freddy/Black Sheep too, though.

My sentiments exactly. It felt like they took these great songs that rocked live, and shoved them through the "studio magic" machine. Emily has a great voice, there's no reason to put so much reverb and fancy effects all over it.

Really disappointed they didn't include Freddie/Black Sheep, but seeing how some of my other live favs turned out, it may be for the best

Oh man, everything I wanted to say, Brendan you said it in your first comment. How could they not include Freddie/Black Sheep!? I remember enjoying some of the new songs a lot more live back in '07...I feel like this album is a grower though.

Yeah, I agree with the comment about it being a grower. I was lukewarm about it the first couple times, but now I'm really digging Sick Muse, Gold Guns Girls, and Blindness.

I love this band. Granted at first listen the songs that they have showcased live didn't seem to live up to how I experienced them live, after a good couple listens, they are getting better and better. I always expect there to be a difference between a live song and recorded song, especially with a band like Metric. They've never really been into the "raw" recording. Anyways, this stuff is damn catchy. I especially like Gold Guns Girls, Gimme Sympathy and Stadium Love. Can't say Front Row has grown that much on me though...

Is there that much difference between this and Avril Lavigne? Think about it for a minute...

yeah this album is kind of horrible , live it out and all the solo stuff and piano-y music was way better

Wow... comparing Metric with Avril Lavigne... you guys don't even deserve to be called Metric fans. Try being happy, for a change?! I've been a Metric fan since their start, and I've got to say that is one of their best so far. So much good work, it sounds so good, so rich. Remember, guys : this is a Metric album, not an Emily Haines album. Try to focuss on the real thing, instead of whining. Unless you bought the album, you don't deserve to shit about it.
