Stream R.E.M.'s Accelerate On iLike

thumbnail icon: Stream R.E.M.'s Accelerate On iLike

After the other day's big news, that Mike Mills and Peter Buck are in fact heterosexual, we figured the R.E.M. cycle would slow down awhile. Not so. As promised, the band's made Accelerate available for full-album streaming on iLike, which can be accessed via Facebook, iTunes plugin, and apparently even iPhone(?). Listen to it at ilike.com/R.E.M. The album is really good.

Accelerate is simply amazing from start to finish!! Who else can make their 14th album sound as brilliant as this one? Once again, R.E.M. are showing why they are the best rock band of the last 25 years. Can't wait to see them perform live!!

Am I missing something? I LOVE LOVE LOVE R.E.M.: have every album, been listeing to them for 20+ years, seen them lots of times in concert, but... well this new album just leaves me cold.

I AM NOT SLAGGING THE ALBUM, but I have to ask: what am I missing? Every magazine/article says the same thing "they're back" but I'm don't see it.

Thoughts? (besides the fact that I am old) In the meantime I am going to listen to it again...

At first listen, this sounds like the work of a band with a renewed energy and sense of purpose. As to what The Dude is missing, I must ask: have you really loved anything R.E.M. has released in the past 10 years? I think that for fans who have become disenchanted, this new album feels like validation. Personally, I'm an '80s R.E.M. fan, and this feels like classic R.E.M. to me.

bland, bland, bland.

Everything about this album just screams, "See? We can be relevant!"
Too bad they forgot to write any actual songs. This has none of the subtlety and surprise of classic R.E.M. This is the sound of Stipe and co. trying way too hard.

Who cares if Mr. Stipe is Gay!...
(which by the way, there's nothing gay about the sound and energy of the album...)

I enjoyed listening the entire album; I like the last 2 songs and the Houston song. I think is the slower song of the cd and is the one that links with their past 3 cds.. It's a shame that Houston is not on the Tour list...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
