Stream The I'm Not There Concert

One of the year's more memorable concert experiences came this month at Beacon, when Tood Haynes pulled together a solid swatch of the artists appearing on his impressionistic Dylan biopic's soundtrack for an all-star live celebration/kick-off for I'm Not There: the film and the OST. There were the customary tribute-show transitional hiccups, some so-so performances, etc. -- but thanks to My Morning Jacket's take on "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You" and the Roots set-closing, Star Spangled "Masters Of War," there were classic moments, too. We posted vid of MMJ's turn along with our pic platter the next morning, but thanks to the archival ambition of the folks at Wolfgang's Vault, now you can stream the entire show. The full list of performers in order of appearance:

Marcus Carl Franklin
Calexico
Jim James
Joe Henry
Mark Lanegan
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Mira Billotte with Lee Ranaldo
The Million Dollar Bashers
Gomez
Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks
Terry Adams
Yo La Tengo and Friends
My Morning Jacket
Mason Jennings
John Doe
Jimmy LaFave
Tift Merritt
Lee Ranaldo
J Mascis
The Roots
Stream it here. And if you click on "All I Really Want To Do" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros you can hear Heath Ledger introducing the band with a wanton wad of gum in his mouth. Imagine the sound of a horse suckling on a salt lick, only not that civilized.

Jim James, I miss your hair. However, you look like a standup gent as well. But winter is coming, let's get metal looking again, hair and beard.

Band To Watch: Hospital Ships

As we pass saturation point for press coverage of Montreal, Portland, Brooklyn and et cetera, it seems Lawrence, Kansas is poised for its coming turn in the music media trend piece carousel. At least from what we're hearing; this marks...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...

Video Hangover: Papa Roach - "Getting Away With Murder"

Every week, we dig in the archives for videos that we find noteworthy, memorable, or just unbelievably stupid. And then, Jon McMillan breaks 'em down for you. This week: Papa Roach lands an uppercut on the glass jaw of big oil.

Damien Jurado - "Murderer" (Low Cover)
