Stream The New ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
It's been almost two years since ...AYWKUBTTOD released Worlds Apart, and we're more than ready for the new. So Divided made its way to the P2Ps last month, but if you haven't heard it yet, make your way to MySpace to stream the record in its entirety.
The album's all over the place, kicking in with the face-smashing rock of "Stand In Silence," moving onto the psych-sax barrage of "Naked Sun," the cadential drama of "Gold Heart Mountain Top Queen Directory," and the title track's driving, time-shifting pop. Who needs a record that stays in one place?
So Divided is out 11/14 on Interscope.

I've heard from people that it's getting terrible reviews, however I think the first 4-5 tracks are fantastic on this album.

protip: "trail of dead" no extra the. not meaning to sound like a fag, but i got corrected for saying the same thing once.

Scott has it right: http://www.trailofdead.com/
(also, obviously, you shouldn't use the word "fag" in a derogatory manner)

If you check out my review, I originally had it minus the ...And You Will Know Us...
Someone told that wasn't true and after some research found it both ways.
I like the original better ANYWAYS.

I've had the leak for a little while (grabbed as part of prepping to see them on tour with The Blood Brothers). I like it, I'm not quite sure how much at this point. It didn't knock me on my ass like Madonna or Source Tags. If I only end up liking it as much as I do Worlds Apart, that'll be okay (as I like Worlds Apart in all its spectacular messiness more than a lot of people seem to).
Strangely, they only seem to be playing Stand In Silence on the current tour. Maybe that will change once the album's out.
Honestly, I was kind of disappointed by ToD at their Detroit stop on this tour. Maybe they were just having an off night. But there's no reason to go back on having a second drummer, when that added SO MUCH to their show on the last tour.
To be honest, The Blood Brothers kind of blew them off the stage, and I think Trail at their best are one of the few bands who can compete with the kind of intensity the Blood Brothers deliver. They both played for about the same amount of time, but the BBs had better sound, a better paced setlist and were just generally more intense. Though in ToD's defense, they apparently didn't get to soundcheck that night (silly in-store took up their time).

I've been listening to this one for a few weeks and I'm quite liking it. Nothing will ever beat Source Tags, but this album, especially the first half is a definite is very strong. It's an improvement on World's Apart, much more consistent and less over the top.

i'm sorry, Worlds Apart was a great piece of rock music, but also - and maybe most impoprtantly - it was a great ALBUM. So divied is an EP. it was concieved as an EP. and if you substract the two filler-tracks, the six years-old "witches web" and the gbv-cover, you end up at 7 new songs. and six of them are really good, no question. but that leaves me... with an EP, not an album. and that proves to me, that this band is not near the epic brillance, they've shown on Worlds Apart.

Stream?! I downloaded it about a week ago and its good . . . . . it could be better but . . . . They, or should I say Conrad, have continues with what they (he) started on Worlds Apart and Jason only sings one song on this album just like on Worlds Apart, I think, with "Caterwaul". I like the progression this band has taken but I think its going overboard because Conrad is almost doing everything now. I think its to go back to their loud, obnoxious and destructive punk roots again, or at least blend it with their orchestral vibe.
Score = 0
If I remember correctly, Jason also sings the shockingly mellow track that ends Worlds Apart

"I think its to go back to their loud, obnoxious and destructive punk roots again, or at least blend it with their orchestral vibe."
That's the thing that made "Source Tags" and bits and pieces of "Worlds Apart" so great (especially the first two tracks in the case of the latter), in my opinion. In addition to oddly-tuned guitars, bass, drums and yelling Texans trying to destroy you, they piled on strings and all sorts of other crazy stuff.

i just wish i could get that stream to work! (or a promo copy!) I wish everybody didn't rely on myspace so much... good old e-cards (oh my god, did I just say that?) were so much more reliable.

"psych sax barrage"
someone needs to stop the impending saxophone comeback before it's too late. have we already forgotten rob lowe's monumentally embarrassing saxophone solos in st. elmo's fire?

I like it alot. It's got the drama, the crunch, the melodies, and the dead on pop track (Eight Day Hell, anyone?). It *is* all over the place and makes for good listening. See 'em tonight at midnight at Virgin Union Square for an acoustic show. I'll be there, if Pollard show is over by then...
