Stream The New Jay-Z & Name That Sample

Jay-Z's been known for shrewd sample choices (we particularly like the Tom Brock makeover on "Girls, Girls, Girls"), so every new HOVA album makes us wanna grab a cold Bud Select and play Name That Groove. Aside from "Show Me What You Got" (Public Enemy + Lafayette Afro Rock Band + Johnny Pate) and the "Superfreak"y title track, however, Kingdom Come's got us scratching our heads.

Listen to the whole album here, and tell us if you recognize any of the samples. Or just tell us what you think of Jay-Z's cameo-crazy comeback! If you dig it and live in Atlanta, Philadelphia, D.C., NJ, Chicago, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas, this Saturday Jigga's taking a jet to your state for a series of thirty minute sets. We bet your thinking the same thing as us: Holy frequent flier miles! Alas, Sean's jet is private. That NASCAR money is no joke.

He was never going to top Black or Blueprint, should have stayed retired. This album is lame as all hell.

Haven't listened to this yet, but the Black Album is crazy overrated.

Seriously, it has its moments, and it works better on headphones. It actually goes lower-key than one might have expected, which I respect. What I can't respect at all is moments like the last verse of "30 Something." Maturity=conspicuous consumption?

a big disappoint me from jay. 'oh my god' is the only track i wanted to listen to a second time. goes to show that big producers mean great album.

I agree with deez on that 30 Something song. I was really liking it at first when Jay was like "I'm young enough to know what car to buy, but grown enough not to put rims on it". Then later he gets into "Your girl shops at the mall; mine burns down Bergdorfs", and it's like quit while you're ahead dude.

I don't have much to say about samples, but the Kanye jam sounds sample-free for once, no? And The Neptunes beat is a departure for them too. Overall a nice Jay-Z album with two lame songs. Disappointment is disproportional to expectations.

The sad thing is that hip hop is in such a sad state that this might be the greatest album in the genre of 2006. Not saying that the cd is bad, because it sounds good, but the rhymes aren't that good. Alec, I'm assuming you mean big producers don't always mean great album, since dr dre and the neptunes are big producers.

Laziness all around, from the rhyming to the lyrics to the production.

ian - yeah, hip hop's been shitty for the past, oh, the last decade, but what I've heard off "Hip Hop Is Dead" by Nas has been quality.

This is not a comeback album. This is recycled hip hop. Jay-Z needs to come with something better than this.... seriously!

Well Hot Damn. Way better than the Black Album and all the dead Beatles DangerMouse could stuff into the Gery Album combined! Fucking insane!

well the sample at the very start is Max Julien from 'The Mack' :)
The oboe on the first track sounds like it could be from black moses era isaac hayes but im not too sure...
the piano on lost ones sounds like its from uncle remus by frank zappa

Show Me What You Got = Shaft In Africa Theme
Kingdom Come = Superfreak (!)

Record is average at best. Check the Clipse record...... it just leaked and is KILLER.
