Stream The New Paul Simon

Produced and written with Brian Eno, Paul Simon's Surprise is streaming at AOL.

The legendary songwriter talks to NY Times:

"It's a weird time to be a 60-year-old in pop music. If this record found a significant audience, I wouldn't be shocked, because I think it came out of an interesting way of composing and working. But if it didn't, I would say O.K., because I'm not really following in anybody's footsteps here. I'm kind of in my own zone and really have been since I wandered off 20 years ago with Graceland."
Surprise: don't tell Paul but he's actually 64. We have a soft spot for Graceland, though, and are digging Simon+Eno save for the duo's few missteps (e.g., the hip-hop informed "Outrageous"). Worth checking out; we're listening for a Budda box!

That "Outrageous" song is as catchy (or cheesy) as "You Can Call Me Al" (actually sounds very similar).

I am not ashamed to admit that I love Paul Simon, although I will admit that I haven't listened to anything he's done since "Rhythm Of The Saints". This new album is good, but it reminds me that Peter Gabriel was more sonically adventureous about 20 years ago.

By far the worst album I've heard this year.

i just realized i have the ancestor of the buddha box. i'm buddhist and my temple gave us this little chanting box that repeats a buddhist chant over and over. it's portable and it's great for when i have to pray on trips or just to get me relaxed for somehthing. who knew these things are now going for 20 bucks!

Awful.

This sounds even worse than You're The One, which was pretty bad. Too much electronic processing and quickly-dating lyrics. Yes, I smell Auto-Tune.

What a shame. Rhythm Of The Saints and Graceland were two of my favorites from the late 1980s.

Hang up your toupee, rhymin' Simon. Go home to your New Bohemian wife and call it a day.

Sounds like some weird, MOR, over the hill version of Death Cab.

Eh, it wasn't absolutely horrible. I liked a few songs... "That's Me" was pretty good. But maybe my expectations were too low to judge. Anyway, I still love Paul Simon. At least he's still trying, right?

I hope this guy is better than Colin Hay - I really don't get the obsession with him. He's an oook singer but his only good songs are covers.

I'd just like to point out to all the haters that if it wasn't for Paul Simon the stuff you listen to would exist at a much lesser level. Show some respect.

Middle aged perhaps but not middle of the road. Rhymin Simon still has it and thanks for keeping the faith. I will remain a satisfied customer.
