Cookie Mountain is the name P Diddy's gone for in the UK.

TVOTR rocked reading festival to its foundations, they bigged up BYOP and The Noisettes.

Noisettes well worth a check, yeah?

I would imagine it's a mountain made of cookies, but then I'm quite literal-minded...

Cookie Mountain lies above the Vanilla Dome, between Soda Lake and Butter Bridge.

Can't seem to mapquest it, though...

man, deadjournalist.com needs a copy editor. first two questions have errors in them. ("loosing" instead of "losing" and calling the song "Providence.")

I really think the only people who will like this album are the people who decided to love it before they even heard it.

I loved the first EP, thought the first LP was good enough, and got this one about a month ago and I keep forcing myself to listen to it, hoping it will grow on me, and it just won't. It's simply really annoying, besides a couple decent songs.

Other people? This comment section is pretty devoid of opinion. One horrible, one "album of the year." I'm surprised there aren't more opinions.

oh, sorry byron, i didn't know i was supposed to write a review....

i just hear so many things when i hear this album....

peter gabriel, prince, flaming lips.....

fuck, what do you want me to say?

i've never heard anything quite like this in, well, forever....

i don't give a fuck if they're black or white or purple....

what's the big deal about a black rock group?

robert johnston, jimi hendrix, chuck berry, and chuck d, for that matter, have been rocking shit for years....

all i'm saying......is this album kicks ass!

now go back to blogging about paris, jessica, and whoeverthefuck......

love,
lucia

Just for the record I loved the EP, thought the first LP was crap, and was surprised that I like Cookie Mountain as much as I do. It took a few listens to sink in, but it's been in regular rotation for a while now.

They've created some amazing soundscapes, I'm a sucker for Tunde's vocals, and you gotta love that werewolf/sex imagery. Seriously, hipster points aside, one of my favorite records this year.

I agree with the recent "reviews" above. I think this album is definitely more accessible to a "pop" audience, which I don't take as a bad thing. I do think Desperate Youth... had more amazing standout tracks (3), but the rest of the album isn't much to get excited about. Cookie Mountain is just a more even, satisfying record throughout. While Desperate Youth dies after five songs, I've listened to Cookie Mountain all the way through numerous times already. I'm just don't understand the backlash this album has received. I almost feel like it's a bunch of jilted hipsters pissing and moaning because it's on Interscope.

I dig it. "Hours" is fantastic. The only complaint I have is that since they've added more live drums, some of the percussion parts sound fairly same-y.

Nothing on Cookie Mountain touches "New Health Rock" though. That song destroys.

is it just me or does the sample in "I was a lover" completely freak the fuck out of you?

Cookie Mountain is a reference to a Sesame Street album from the 70s. Cookie Monster takes a mythical journey to reach Cookie Mountain, having adventures along the way. The LP was very cool, with a gatefold map inside so kids could track CM's journey as the record played. Probably my favorite Sesame Street LP as a kid.

Actually, it was the havin' fun with ernie and bert lp. Song was 'The Magic Cookie'...wiki said
"And there's a big picture map that make it easier to follow the story The Magic Cookie."
